Many of those labs were partially funded by the Biological Threat Reduction Program that Russia themselves asked the US to fund in an effort to reduce proliferation of dangerous pathogens after the Soviet Union collapsed. This was back in 90s as part of wider program to reduce proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.. Why would they all of sudden become concerned with these labs? There are labs that research deadly pathogens all over the world. What was so special about the ones in Ukraine.
