quote:

Taylor Trupiano says he's still shaking his head over a parking ticket he got on his own property.

"I thought it was some kind of joke at first, and then I was thrown back by it," he said. "I was really surprised."

quote:

The ticket was for leaving the keys in the ignition with the motor running and no one around. Trupiano said he was only doing something many people in Michigan do during the winter.

"I was in and out in probably about 7-8 minutes," he added. "So in that amount of time he ran up here, gave me a ticket and by the time I got out he was nowhere to be seen."

Wanna know how I know this cop has a two inch pecker?

I guess Michigan after-market suppliers want to sell remote ignition kits to help people avoid these tickets.

While this sounds a bit much, there are some inherent perils by doing this, however unlikely, it(they) could happen. Say a child wondered upon the car...that could be problematic. Also, a theft could have occurred and the police would have additional resources spent having to track the car down. Also, if there was a claim due to a theft, for example, it would affect others as well on the insurance side of things. Just a few things to consider when this is thought out.

Edit: Beat me to it Michigan Tiger

Why is the criticism never directed at the idiotic legislatures or city councils that enact these laws instead of hating on cops just doing their job? Do people really support the notion that cops should only enforce the laws they personally care about?

While I don't like the law, it does address a problem with car theft. But the police should be fair and make an announcement on the local stations about the law and that they will enforce it.

Are you that ignorant?

Do you honestly think that cop writes everyone that goes 1mph over the limit a ticket?

Common sense is a good thing, no?

If I could be on that jury, no way would I ever vote guilty.

What a stupid law.

The ultimate blame does fall on the lawmakers but let's not pretend cops can't use common sense. They have discretion. They can let it go, they can issue a warning, or issue the ticket.
Also, Police forces always decide how to allocate their resources, which is in essence deciding which laws to place emphasis on enforcing.

Good. You shouldn't leave your car running for 7-8 minutes to warm up. You really only need about 3-4 minutes and if you have seat warmers then you need even less time.

Once you hit the road the heaters heat up relatively quickly.

Then why not go after the criminals who steal cars?

Cops have discretion and should use common sense. Calling something your job doesn't give you a license to be stupid.
