Wishful thinking. Damage is done, Dems are gonna pound this over their heads as long as they can.
If You think they’re gonna let anyone forget anytime soon you’re in for a rude awakening. In an election year no less.

If they don’t want the liability of being responsible for multiple frozen babies, maybe they shouldn’t be creating multiple frozen babies. If the baby is a baby whether pre- or post- birth, on what arbitrary basis do we assign personhood at any point after fertilization?

Right? These fools are totally making things up about this case.

It will be a political football and republicans will be hammered by it.

Ivf can be done without destroying embryos; it’s just more painstaking and expensive.

Which will be maybe a week or two, at most. I doubt it makes it through the weekend.

There will be nothing to discuss, because it won't be the law anymore.

Whatever law they try to pass will still have to pass Alabama Supreme Court review. Good luck with that.

The Alabama Supreme Court didn't create law here. The legislature is simply passing a law that changes the definition to mean an embryo already in a uterus. Previous law said an embryo "wherever it exists."

Really don't care what anyone says about it. The ruling is correct and Alabama has no reason to be concerned about it.

Alabama AG says he won't prosecute IVF providers, families following embryo court ruling

Sorry IJAFK, I said I would leave it at my previous post but I just want to add this.
Yes, people are taking this farther than what this case is really about. But it sets precedence for other cases. Embryos are children. A vial gets destroyed accidentally aka 1-2 children are dead. Wouldn't the state have to press manslaughter charges because of the deaths? That's how I am concerned about this ruling. Maybe I am wrong but some laws have a much bigger reach than what was intended.

No, and this has never been on the table. It isn't even on the table in the case in question. This was a civil case.

Correct. Which in turns makes it that much more difficult, and thus a colossal loser for Rs.
Even Trump sees this and why they’re going into damage control.

It's the correct ruling. The "fix" the legislature is going to pass is fine.

I think this myopic response represents what is wrong with a large portion of society

I agree. I'm just concerned it can take a turn like that. I am not aware of anything that would prevent it from going to this extreme. But I am by no means a law person.
It is a civil case but when you find the embryo to be human and was killed by negligence, it's now a criminal case (as far as I am aware).
Again, thank you for your responses. I don't think we are thinking the same way, but I appreciate your interactions.

So when the baby is implanted and does not take who is responsible for murder?
I swear the educational age of this board hovers around the sixth grade

The law in question was meant to ban abortion, and I'm not aware of anyone being prosecuted for abortions yet. If that isn't happening, surely they aren't going to be prosecuting deaths of embryos in IVF clinics.
