It's why these mother frickers don't feel the grocery stick shock the rest of us do. One, it's not coming out of their own pocket. Two, I don't believe for a second that any of these frickers are buying ground meat on sale and making tacos at home. These pieces of shite have left that lifestyle a long time ago. If they ever were like that.

What's the old saying? "It's one big ole club and YOU ain't in it!"

I hate government leeches as much as the next guy but this isn't that big of a deal. $40 buck a day for food?

Then that's the first thing they need to make a priority. They're sent to DC to represent the interests of their home district's voters.

I know how lobbying works ... no Congressman is actually paying for their own food.

Pay for dinner with credit card. Submit receipt for reimbursement to the US govt and the lobbyists.

$1250 a month for food is crazy, lol.

That's starvation level for Jerry Nadler.

Heck, a lot of their dinners are paid for by lobbyists who are schmoozing them to support their favorite cause.

Do they EVER buy their own dinner?

This is infuriating.

Let's not pretend they are forced to be there. They chose this job.

So, only slaves get expense accounts?

Do you people actually hear yourselves, or have you gone so far down the tribalism rabbit hole that you say stuff like this without realizing how idiotic it sounds?

They gave themselves 54,000 extra in one of the Stimulus pacakages during Co vid. Most Americans got 700 bucks. I asked John Kennedy’s office about it. They told me not to contact them again.

These guys could work from home, but they gather in Washington to make it easier for the lobbyists.

That being said, it's easy to mock all this and say it's grift.

Who here, though, lives in one place and travels to a work office somewhere else, and is expected to cover the costs of being there? Do we realistically expect them to maintain two homes to do this job?

Sure, some actually sleep in their office. Is that really the answer?

How about we just build them a dorm or pay a per diem?

How about they work from their home districts so they are actually in touch and accountable to the people who they are supposed to represent?
They can travel to DC quarterly for a few days, meet in the Capitol to do formal business, stay in a hotel, then go home to answer for what you just spen the damn taxpayers money on.
The rest of the time they can meet online to have discussions.

I would cut back on the amounts, but per diem is pretty standard.

Recipients of these funds include at least 17 millionaire Democrats, including Rep. Katie Porter, who reported a net worth of up to $1.8 million in her latest financial disclosure,

I am a R and hate these stupid "rich" claims that are outdated. I am worth well north of that number and am a middle class poor. $1.8 mil net worth is not a lot in today's numbers. Combining retirement accounts, savings, and property holdings dont take much to exceed that number.

Hardly doubt anyone in here would consider me a team player. Granting yourself $34k for expenses on top of a nearly $175k salary for public works that historically frowned upon self enrichment is clownish.

Do you have a job that requires travel? Do you cover your own travel expenses?

I think 90% of Congress needs to be flushed and replaced with people who have had real jobs. I think it's incredibly corrupt.

In the grand scheme of all it's failures and flaws, though, covering legitimate expenses and costs of doing the job is hardly a hill to die on. All it does is take oxygen from the real issues of insider trading and legalized bribery.

I'm not sure about the amounts, but I don't have an issue with members of congress getting a housing and meal allowance.

The concept of serving the country has turned into career politicians, but I support regular citizens going to DC to serve the country. This cannot happen if there is a financial barrier to living there.

I also think it is counterproductive and hypocritical to think that a congressman's wealth should preclude him from participating in the program. It should be available to all, or not available to all.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R., Fla.) received the largest share of funds out of any lawmaker. The Florida Republican, who led the effort to oust former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in part due to his budgetary policies, has billed taxpayers nearly $17,000 from January through May to pay for his D.C. living expenses. Gaetz received an additional $6,200 to pay for his meals during the same timeframe, an average of over $1,250 per month.

At least Gaetz earned his!!
