No one deserves the public shaming.
That said, I have little sympathy as I’m sure they’ve engaged in internet mobs, and two, jade intentionally puts herself on the internet.

Yes and that is a crime.
Giving the money is not a crime until you get I to the fraud piece. Maybe you are required to issue 1099 if she did it through a legal entity.

AND Aside from the obvious bad optics, aren't there strict NCAA guidelines about what student athletes are allowed to accept as perks?
She was on a rowing scholarship... what would happen if another student "recruited" on a scholarship-- let's say a say a basketball player-- was photographed on a trustee's yacht?
... could someone tell us again why the schools aren't being held accountable?
