To get a conviction the State will have to convince a jury the dead guy was not stalking the killer’s daughter.
You got it backwards. The man will have to prove he was stalking his daughter and try to fit under some type of self defense, or just convince the jury of his story and have them regardless of self defense law.

March 8, shortly before 5 p.m., the Cook County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from a citizen who watched someone pull into Scully's Grand Marais driveway, "smash a vehicle" and "then run into the house," according to the affidavit.
"The citizen then heard screaming coming from the house," the affidavit says. "While on the call, approximately a minute later," the citizen told a dispatcher the man was driving to the police station, which is about three blocks away.
He wasn't giving this guy a chance to harm his daughter but busting up into someone's driveway then busting in their house and beating them to death is probably the worst legal way to handle it. Lucky the dead molester had a conviction for abusing a child previously and the man once had an order for the man to stay away as far back as 2018. This has been brewing for awhile.
You can DV me but if I had a child being stalked by a convicted child molester I would do anything it took to protect my child including what this man did

MN is weird, but if I was a juror, the best any prosecutor could hope for would be a hung jury...

All it takes is one woman with children on the jury.

Nobody should be allowed to have antlers that big.
Yup.
If it had more than 6 points, it was a military grade, mega capacity assault antler too.

He could still use the crime of passion defense. Remember he felt that he had to protect his child's life
Crime of passion probably does not work if you literally drive to someone's house to kill them because you think they will hurt your kid at some point in the future. You can always try though. This was at the very least deliberate. Unless this guy can prove he was provoked or that there is an immediate danger to his kid, he is probably going to get charged with manslaughter. I don't see a conviction but he will get charged.
