It needs to get infinitely worse before people will ever understand and it needs to in the entire nation. The Left needs to be exposed for what they truly are which is incredibly stupid and incapable of governing

to his credit, he seems to be doing things w/out assuming it takes magic to get it done. he is showing NYC exactly the problems with what they want.

Maybe that was known to them? He isn't hiding anything. He is being open about the numbers and the extremes it takes to do them. In the past these folks would jsut do it, run up debt and claim bankruptcy or something.
I am beginning to think Mamdani was created just to give progressives everything they want but put it all in public so they have no choice but to own their stupidity or admit they were wrong.

Libraries should absolutely be cut. Huge waste of money. Technology has changed and it's not 1920. People aren't going down to the library to look up atlas data anymore.
The New York public library system budget is $480M and the Los Angeles system is $270M a year. Wrap your mind around those numbers. It's absurd.
This is true to an extent. Yes, people look at the material differently -- most of the time on a desktop computer, tablet or phone. But a lot of sociology, medical or science research material -- people aren't going to scroll through all that on a phone. Sometimes, you need an actual book or bigger screen to look at several pages of stuff.
The brick and mortar branches should be a reduced role, but not eliminated.

You assumed I meant within the final three years of DJT. We taxpayers will potentially be on the hook way after that.

He plans on destroying the city then blame Trump/Republicans when it happens and his minions will gladly re-elect him.

Don’t hold your breath.

If you hate socialism, you should be celebrating this cut. I can’t imagine most of you support our tax money being used to fund free books and educational access.

here's another "free" thing being gutted to pay for his socialism.
well, that's a sentence!!!
Public Libraries, the "free thing for the public good," are "Socialism," are they not? So he's shuffling money around among Socialist programs? Or is he doing what they tried to do in Baton Rouge and take a few year's worth of the Library system budget and use it to plug other things (like public works) because the Library System is too well-managed, keeps an emergency fund to keep itself if funding is lost, going for two years and the public will always vote to keep or increase its millage?

Cannot overlook the aspect of control people have over library collections. From "high-end" shite like major discoveries (like dead sea scrolls) to Presidential papers, all the way to what 5 amd 6 year olds have access.
Wonder how long it would take to digitize everything and give everyone access online with all the library budgets combined gowing towards the work.

When we went to NY after Mardi Gras, we stayed down the street from the main branch of the NYPL. It is absolutely incredible. Being there felt like a religious experience almost. The main branch is more of a museum than a real library, though.
I did some quick Googling to see how its funded and it looks like it has an endowment of more than $1BB and almost $3BB in assets.
The last time the city council proposed cutting the library's budget, residents rallied to save the library's funding.
