Man times have changed. Mentioned that to my wife and she was shocked. We were both out of our parents homes the summer after turning 18. Didnt know each other and met 14 years later. But most of my friends were also were out of the home the summer after high school graduation

The second I graduated I kicked the tires and lit the fires. Didn't even stay in the same city and I hadn't secured a job yet. I just knew I was out.

Same here. I couldn't wait to be on my own after HS.
I drove my old car to start college at Centenary. I didn't go back to New Iberia till Christmas break.
When I returned to school I saw the lights of Shreveport-Bossier ahead and said out loud (no one else in the car) 'Wow, it's good to be home.'
I was 18 and knew I would never go home again.

That’s a lot of potential Dim voters, 80% of those basement dwellers want student loan forgiveness.

My wife was a bit of a hippie coming out of high school and went to a liberal arts school to major in public relations. Her father sat her down to talk about career outlook, and stressed to her she would always have a place to live in his house. She got the hint quick and transferred to a real school and switched majors to accounting.

Feels good having a sugar momma now.

It's insane to think that they have people who still live with their parents pass the age of 22-23.

that’s basically the only viable high-ish paying job for young college grads other than owning a business or working for EY, Turner, Deloitte, etc. in today’s job market.

At 29 I’d served 4 years in the military, been at the same job for 5 years, and owned a home.

95% of the recent college grads that I know who are paying for their own living expenses either work for a large 1000+ employee company, are in sales whether it’s insurance sales, corporate sales, whatever, or own a business. I’m not saying that those are the only jobs, but if you don’t do one of those things you’re more than likely not paying rent in a major city.

that's what happens when a university indoctrinates you in mathematics instead of social justice!

not sure why anybody would downvote this, sounds like your kid has life wired

My nephew is in Arkansas in the area he grew up in, town of about 25K people, he is 27 or 28, on a track to be successful for his entire career.

I wouldn't want to stay in an area that small but he did and made a plan and is executing it.

I don't actually know any stereotypical millenials personally.

I blame weed, porn, and video games

All of my male cousins in that age bracket still live at home.

One of them is a hardcore socialist Bernie antifa type who lives in New England. He got his 4 year degree and has done nothing but play video games and smoke weed since graduating and his parents enable him because they too are far left democrats who believe he is an unemployed loser because of Republicans.

The only time he ever leaves the house is to go to a protest.

I’m all for working hard and being successful and pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, but I know very few young people who are living good, healthy lives of their own merit in the current state of society and it has nothing to do with their work ethic

Appreciate the feedback.

My mom has only held one job with one company her whole life she works in customer service and has been doing so for 37 yrs.

My dad was the only one of 7 siblings to graduate from college (because he grew up on a farm) and has had steady multiple jobs but we were literally the epitome of a middle class family.

Their sacrifices paid the way for me to go to a good high school and college. I got TOPS scholarship in Louisiana at LSU which helped me but I worked my arse off for it.

I drove my moms old Honda Accord for 8 yrs and when I graduated the AC broke so I was in Houston during the summer interviewing for jobs around town with no ac having to stop at gas stations to change my button downs.

I bust my arse in sales and I love what I do. I originally worked in oil/gas tech sales then moved on to CRM type sales.

There are plenty of stories like mine out there you just never hear about them because the media nor anyone focuses on positive stories.

Do people benefit from their parents? Yes. But it's that sacrifice that made it possible. There are way more people like me that had to grind then get the silver spoon.
