4.25 GPA at LSU in Biochemistry. All A+... Every class thru last Fall.

It also took me 4x to get accepted to LSU Nola, but if your nephew really wants it, he can get in another cycle with that MCAT if it’s what he wants to do. I’m glad I kept trying.
I also get the frustrations. I didn’t think I’d get in ever at one point, but they were going to see me every year until they did, and I took another upper level biology class on the side to show them I was still keeping up and interested in learning in preparation for the rigor of school

Yes.
He is not bullshitting. I thought that as well.
Kind of like everyone who played high school football gets better with age

He may do this he told me (wait until next year) or try to transfer into LSU NOLA after 1st year.

Does he really want to go to medical school in NOLA? Or is he willing to go anywhere?

In the end, the high achievers will end up doing what they want to do.
The kid I’m referencing picked up his ball and went across the state and is now enrolled in another medical school.
I’m alway happy to point out the idiocy of DEI and imposing political views onto what should be a highly competitive meritocracy.

What do you know about the people who WERE accepted? What are their MCAT scores? What are all their grades?
If it meant the life of your first born child, would you bet that LSU Med School is accepting less qualified minorities strictly because of their race, or that the OP’s nephew didn’t get in because there were more qualified minorities?
You'd have to be one seriously deranged and stupid motherf *cker to bet on the latter.

Well you’re hot about it and it’s your nephew. How is your brother/sister in-law handling it?

There’s your problem. Their incoming class is probably 90% female.

Is he a Louisiana resident?

63% female last year.

If you want to pretend that chicks and POC aren’t getting preferential treatment in med school admission, you are welcome to that delusion.
Sure. This is true.
But, regardless of gender and race, there also aren’t a lot of applicants with 95th percentile MCAT scores unable to find a spot somewhere.
Unless, there is something else keeping them out - like a past arrest or something. Or some other red flag.
Or maybe they’re applying for an MD/PhD spot that is very competitive.

I thought LSU had to end its entrance based on race, gender diversity etc.
It would be pretty ballsy of them to keep this charade up, given the current political climate in the state. Board fav Jeff Landry would love to get in front of a microphone with info that LSU is discriminating against whites.

The LSU School of Medicine Nola doesn't accept many applicants. Their freshman class is usually around 190 students.

The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) has an annual publication called "Medical School Admission Requirements" (MSAR) that lists all the information regarding demographics of applicants/accepted students, average MCAT/GPA, but also shows the percent of accepted students who have clinical experience, community service, etc.
With a score like that...something has to be up...he didn't interview well, he doesn't have clinical experience, his letters of evaluation were not good...something is up. Has he been officially rejected? I know they are still interviewing for the fall class, so he may still get in.

MCAT score is only a piece of the puzzle. Your other accomplishments, experiences, recommendations, etc., must absolutely demonstrate a passion and desire to serve others as a physician. Being smart enough to make a good MCAT score but not much to go with it will usually not get you beyond the initial review of applications.
My son (white, born as my son) recently got into a very good medical school with a very average MCAT, but he had volunteered at multiple camps for kids with medical issues every year since high school, is an Eagle Scout (this does still open doors for you), did a full summer of high level research as an undergrad which got published in a medical journal, had outstanding letters of recommendation, including a couple from highly respected physicians at teaching hospitals, 3.9 undergrad GPA in Biomedical Sciences, and interviews exceptionally well. Not trying to make this a dad brag. Just trying to paint a picture that there are lots of pieces to the puzzle and MCAT is just one piece.

Is he a white male... If so, that explains everything....
Two of my friends kids just finally got excepted after a year wait.. Two good students with the grades to prove, both white males.

Yeah there is something more to this. My friend's kid was waitlisted for NOLA and when I saw him at the Mardi Gras parade last weekend he had finally gotten accepted. His backup was LSU-S and he was immediately accepted there, but will now go to NOLA.
