Why can’t we just do what Texas, Florida or Tenn. do? They seem to be doing well enough.

Mississippi doesn't have the oil refineries or pipelines in place to move the product.

Because as hard as it is to imagine, our population is THAT much dumber than any of the other states you mentioned. Louisiana voters have earned every bit of political carnage and ineptitude we’ve experienced in the last century. Less than 1/3rd of our legislature can walk and chew gum at the same time. Our local officials are generally just as dumb although twice as corrupt.

We cannot do anything that TX, FL, or TN does which makes them successful. None of it.

Because Louisiana politicians refuse to move away from an oil based economy, and diversify its economy. Texas did exactly that.

Not really. They refuse to work for the good of the whole, instead they play favorites. They’ve spent hundreds of millions of dollars on growing a film industry. They pay rich people to come or stay in La. and if they quit paying they leave. Why can’t we pass a tax code that treats everyone the same instead of helping big businesses at the expense of small businesses?
Oil isn’t what it once was. Sure it’s important but it’s not nearly what it once was. We need to wise up.

For those more knowledgeable than I on the subject, is there any mechanism for drafting a state constitution without involving the legislature or the state population in the process? Because that’s the only way I’d support a convention to do so.

Let them fold. We don't need that many parishes.

It is time for an overhaul of the state constitution but this group of politicians would completely rewrite it to better themselves.

Convention of 1973 required 80% of delegates to be elected (105) and 27 appointed by the governor. Of course, the legislature had to pass that and Edwin signed off.

The problem is most citizens would just pick the names they know - their reps and senators.

Hey, and they can always fall back on the sage wisdom of John Alario if they need any advice.

What could go wrong?

Blake Miguez could add in the legal principles he learned at Southern.
