How’s that GOP supermajority working out?

Louisiana is filed with formerly socially conservative democrats turned R in the 80’s/90’s that spend like drunken sailors. That’s a huge reason why we are at the bottom of most metrics and why our government is so huge.

Wtf are you talking about?

They are earmarking tax money for projects that benefit the taxpayers
That’s what govt is supposed to do

Another idiot talking out their arse

The LA govt has a big surplus right now so in this session they spent money to get needed projects done and took a bunch of money to pay down the pension debt
Why do you have a problem with that?

No matter if he/she votes for shite legislation or against decent legislation in order for it to happen?

This House is exceptionally bad, even as Louisiana legislative bodies go.

Because A. It isn't their fricking money to pass out to their buddies in their districts.

B. There was a bill to return portion of the surplus to taxpayers, after paying down the unfunded liability, and putting money in the rainy day fund. Stuart Bishop killed it in committee.

C. There is a massive backlog of infrastructure maintenance and repairs that isn't funded because the House says we don't have the money. These are our roads, bridges, state buildings, and university projects that arent getting funded.

D. These same assholes sending pork to their districts from one side of their mouth, are freaking out about revenue projections for 2025, and how much they will have to cut.

The House leadership is just trash.

The Republicans now have a supermajority in both chambers.

It was killed in committee because they’re likely going to use this surplus from FY 22 and excess from FY 23 to hand out more tax exemptions if Landry is elected.

Lobbyists and corporations will always have the priority before the taxpayers.

Uh, because there are critical infrastructure needs (basic needs like roads with potholes and bridges that need their structural integrity in tact) that deserve priority before a sports complex in Youngsville.

You must have a shitty rep because every main highway in my district has been re-done or is in the process of being redone in the last 5 years
Also my rep got the mayors of each community to apply for fed grants for roads and they all got the grant and have new roads

I personally know a few state level politicians. All are very wealthy and are full of shite, except for one. Oh, and I've been around them at private camps, drinking. So I've heard the truth about a lot of things.

The state DOTD backlog is $15 billion. The LSU system, UL system, Southern System, and LTCC system maintenance backlog is nearly $2 Billion. The state building construction and maintenance backlog is over a $1 billion.

Maybe you don't pay attention to the legislative session, but I do. I watched Weighs and Means members like Tanner Magee, Stuart Bishop, and Ryan Devillier say we didn't have money to divert to these backlogs. They all put in capital outlay requests for their districts to the tune of millions of dollars.

The House Republicans are simply awful. They are 80s style big government tax and spend populists masquerading as conservatives.

THANK YOU!

E. Why the frick do we have local governments if the job of state reps to shovel money back to locals? Either stop sendings funds to locals (duh) or just do away with local governments and let the state run everything.

F. These are not determined by need or priority. They are determined politically. It's kleptocracy in action. It may fund an actual need, but that is not the goal. They goal is buy votes with tax payer money.

They are bribing you with your own money and you are telling them thank you?

Of course the senate will spend at least as much as the House. And Bodi's district has done real well.

Zeringue got the most and the majority is going to a new hospital roof so it can open back up. Ins probably should cover that but ins companies in LA are pos

Magee's #1 requests was for hurricane repairs to sheriff office - again I don't know why ins didn't pay for that but I'm not surprised they didn't

What normally happens is that several culture war bills are filed and passed and the spending bills are ignored. Meanwhile, nothing ever improves for Louisianans because these assholes are more interested in ensuring their re-election with pork spending that does jack shite to improve the state as a whole.

If the average Louisiana voter viewed these committee hearings and read and understood the appropriations bills, 80 - 85% of the legislature would be sent home.
