They need to vet better candidates though.

Like how you vetted JBE and swore like your life depended on it that JBE was not so bad and is really a conservative democrat that was not going to harm Louisiana?

The signs were that JBE was going to be an obvious leftist that's a political twin of Edwin Edwards, you just chose to ignore them in favor of sky screaming over David VItter.

Both will probably lose to a carefully groomed democrat.

The 2023 democrat is going to be a black democrat and that's not going to fly.

If that's the best they got, then you're wrong. The national democrat machine is well-oiled and ready to mangle people that just recite party rhetoric.

This. Jeff Landry would be a horrible candidate.

That said, I'm not sure the Democrat bench has someone ready to go at this time. Cedric Richmond, Karen Peterson...those two aren't viable state-wide. Walt Leger, MAYBE??

No, they do not.

Every statewide position outside of Governor including our two senators is GOP.

5 out of 6 Congressmen is GOP.

The state senate is supermajority GOP.

The state house of Representatives is two seats shy of being supermajority for GOP.

That is not a political party that has their shite together, you're confusing a perfect storm against GOP gubernatorial candidates for "has their shite together".

By the time the runoff comes around republicans whose candidate didn't make the runoff end up not voting or vote for the democrat out of spite.

I agree with this.

We have a problem with conservatives and GOP voters in Louisiana that really needs to learn how to take a LOSS and then do the right thing in the end and vote to keep the liberal out of the Governor's mansion.

Who's going to be the Republican running against "moderate" Mitch Landrieu?

Not when the Democrat candidate lies to his voters(speaking about educators and his promsise for raises) or also when he promises to keep drug testing from being required for state benefits..
Appeal the the public, he did just that with the whole state benefit ordeal in 2 of the most populated parishes which used state funding.

hit the nail on the head. Our GOP leadership is non existant. With Trump out of office they are in real trouble. They spent the last 4 years running on the platform of we support Trump.

And they burned bridges doing that and will never win another election as a republican ever again.

Look at Scott Angelle now. HIs political career is dead in the water. Lost a house race to Clay Higgins of all people a year later with conservatives being pissed he stayed home for the runoff and let JBE win and now Angelle is going to lose his regulatory job in the Trump admin with Biden taking over.

Angelle will have to get a real job in the private sector now but it wouldn't surprise me if someone in a local municipality or parish somewhere hooks him up with a decent gig for him to coast to retirement.

Jay Dardenne? Dude burned his bridges with GOP voters in the state endorsing JBE and then working for him and shilling for his liberal agenda. After JBE is gone, his career is gone as well.

Who are the Republicans being courted for the next race? Are there any chances Jindal(God forbid) tries to throw his hat back in the ring again?

Considering all the intellectual talent in LA has decamped to other states you're going to end up with a crap governor regardless of party affiliation.

Dude has been paying his dues and putting in work to elect conservative candidates all over the state no matter the race and has been nothing but a gigantic pain in the arse for JBE.

Landry deserves the benefit of the doubt.

The democrat candidate in 2023 is likely going to be a black democrat and you can see how that's going to go.

Blacks have been itching to take over the Louisiana democrat party and JBE has been holding them off for as long as he can but the Hoover dam is breaking.

Walt Leger

JBE's choice for House speaker in his first term.

Should be tarred and feathered as the next JBE.

All the GOP candidate has to say, "Remember when JBE lied about being a moderate and a conservative democrat? Leger is saying the same thing. Don't let them fool you again Louisiana."

Jeff Landry is an obvious one.

Garrett Graves is probable and would be a good candidate but would not be surprised if he stays in Congress.

Higgins is a wild card but I hope he stays in Congress as I don't trust people to vote for him.

Really can't think of anyone that would be a shocker.

No.

That chapter of his life is closed and he's enjoying a low profile life writing an occasional column for the wall street journal.

Hell no on Higgins. The LAGOP might as well burn down.

I think Landry and Graves are giving serious consideration, as possibly Kennedy or Scalise.

John Schroder is another one who now has some state-wide recognition as a viable Republican.

If some of the rumors of JBE being pulled away for the Biden Administration are true, then wouldn't Nungesser resume the 4th Floor rather than a special election? If so, suddenly he has a chance to make a name and be the "incumbent" for 2023.

No. Louisiana is exactly in the mold for a Stacey Abrams style operation. And everybody in New Orleans is liberal anyway.

The State Democrat Party powers have to be aware of how that is "likely going to go". A Democrat like JBE doesn't win a state-wide election on black votes and yuppy NOLA/BR/Lafayette liberal votes alone. They also depend on getting that rural, old Democrat with still rooted racist sentiments vote. You know, those old white voters who still think corrupt public "servants" like Edward Edwards, Huey Long and Leander Perez were great leaders for Louisiana.

Those types will vote for an old, white Democrat, especially one who they can relate to, over a Republican. However, if it's a black Democrat vs. a Republican, those old racist feelings rise up and they either hold their nose for the GOP candidate, or they stay home.
