Yes it has. There hasn't been unanimous support for wall funding from House republicans. It was assumed they'd get the needed votes when it came down to it, but it was no sure thing. And even as we speak now, they're not 100% sure they have the votes.

Well it hasn't really been considered the "rate limiting step". The Senate has always been considered a taller hurdle to jump.

If it doesn’t pass shut it down and let the Dems explain why they prefer a shutdown over boarder security.

How much wall can you build for 5 billion? What percent of the fence-able southern border would they cover?

Wasnt 25 billion on the table at one time?

Basically the same game the GOP house played from 2010-2016 since they knew Obama would veto everything.

In fairness to the House, they passed a similar bill in 2017 but there was a few senators who sided with Dems to kill it despite voting over and over for it when Obama was in office to veto it. Thanks McCain

The CR still needs 60. The specific amendment may just need 50, I'm not sure. The 50 vote threshold would apply if this was being done through reconciliation, but it's being done through the normal budget process.

Well, not really normal as it is supposed to be, but the CR process has replaced the budget process since the late 70's.

None at the moment. I’m just following reporters speculation on the house floor.

Right. In general fiscal issues are not bound by the senate filibuster/cloture rules.

$21 billion. Schumer and Trump reached a tentative agreement for that figure in exchange for codifying DACA and protecting current DACA recipients. Trump went back on his word though, and that deal fell through. Then the Senate voted on the bill Trump actually supported and it didn't even get 30 Republican votes in favor of it.

So Trump did have the funding for his wall at one time, but let his ego get in the way.

I know the feeling, and I have to correct myself. The $21 billion was the full border security line item, with only $1.6 billion for the wall.

Sorry. My mistake wasn't intentional.

this. doesnt it have to have 60 senate votes to pass?

what's the point of passing the house?

Doesn't it put democrats on the line for note passing it then, thus shutting down the gov't? That's how I view it as an independent. Otherwise, gotta blame the republicans.

Yes, and several of them have already gone home. They can be called back, but do you really think they'll all come back just before Christmas to vote on a bill that's not going to pass?

Do you honestly think they WON'T come back when the government shuts down over this?

Either way, these yokels are going to be working over the holidays to get something passed to keep the government open.

Well, Corker laughed when a reporter asked him if he'd return. Granted, he's retiring anyway so I don't blame him, but I doubt all of them come back this weekend to hold a vote on Monday. They may return late next week.

I mean, Trump himself told us in the Chuck and Nancy meeting it needs 60 votes in the Senate to pass. Try to keep up.

He isn’t getting 60 votes in the Senate.
