Do it. Then Trump can impose sanctions on CA and impose a naval blockade on its coast. No goods in or out.

Trade them for Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Then tariff the hell out of California products.

San Diego is the West Coast home of the US Navy. Losing CA would mean that that would have to move.

There's a very good chance if Cali were to secede, you would see the "State of Jefferson" become a reality.

Ultimately, full secession would require a U.S. constitutional amendment, needing approval from two-thirds of Congress and three-fourths of U.S. states—a near-impossible bar in the current political landscape.

Not necessarily. Constitution doesn’t address secession but SCOTUS has ruled the lack of provision on secession means it wasn’t intended as permissible and entry to the Union is irrevocable.

I’d argue that can be challenged. To be admitted to the Union a majority of citizens in a territory must vote for it and form a constitution complying with the U.S. Constitution. Congress must vote in favor of statehood and president sign it.

I’d argue secession should be reverse of this process. State votes in favor, state rescinds their constitution and applies to leave the union. Congress and President must vote in favor. If the relationship between that state and Fedgov/rest of nation has become so toxic and irreparable then maybe a majority would agree to part ways

I wonder what they would do for water? Much is brought in from watersheds in other states. The Central Valley, America’s fruit, vegetable and nut cornucopia, largely exists by buying water from neighbors.
It would literally dry up.

I’d love to see it play out this way, but let the inland counties remain as a reconstituted California.

So you want to give up the valuable portions of CA and keep the rest?

Actually, the inland areas are where the natural resources are. And you need to try to keep up. The blue counties would remain under occupation, like Puerto Rico, Guam, USVI, etc.
