Are they his buds? If so, it is an ethics violation.

I think the Ivanka thing was even less of a deal, because it somewhat political.

It was purely political.

There would have been no 'endorsement' had the vicious leftists not lashed out at Ivanka.

The 'endorsement' was more of an off-hand political retort than it was an endorsement for financial gain.

You could say it was a little motivated by trying to lessen the financial impact of the political attack.

The truth? Politicians can endorse a restaurant. I see no issue there. If they are endorsing the restaurant of a friend or family member, then that is a bit different. If Schumer went on CNN and told everyone to go buy comedy club tickets for Amy's show, that would be a violation. He probably wouldn't do that though, because he is a lot smarter than Conway.

Yes, it literally says friends and family.

LINK

quote:

§ 2635.702 Use of public office for private gain.

An employee shall not use his public office for his own private gain, for the endorsement of any product, service or enterprise, or for the private gain of friends, relatives, or persons with whom the employee is affiliated in a nongovernmental capacity, including nonprofit organizations of which the employee is an officer or member, and persons with whom the employee has or seeks employment or business relations. The specific prohibitions set forth in paragraphs (a) through (d) of this section apply this general standard, but are not intended to be exclusive or to limit the application of this section.

edit: it's not limited to friends and family, obviously, but unless the owner of Stella's has ties to Schumer through nonprofits or other business relations then it's not a violation

I would assume that the explicit endorsement to buy, like when Trump said buy "LL Bean," is different than a positive appraisal of a company or product like if Trump said, "LL Bean makes great clothing."

Neither is a big deal in the grand scheme, but the former is much more blatant.

I'm not here to defend him. I'm here to point out your comparing what he did to what KAC did is apples to oranges. Sorry you're wrong.

It's not the same though. Obviously, it doesn't make sense to punish Conway for it, but saying "go buy something" is considerably more blatant than talking positively about that something.

It's apples to apples. Both are technically illegal, but neither a big deal.

Tell me how they are different?
