This is the central question for me. The spot is so obvious, it doesn’t seem possible that the security detail could leave it unguarded/unsecured.

Dope card. It shows his holds/clicks to dial for different yardages. He will have to read wind, but elevation will be worked out on that card.

Only thing I can think of is maybe a quick dope chart he can quickly glance at.

I’m not fully bought in on this theory, but the simple answer to your question is that the SS would assume the shooter hit his mark. Trump grabbed at his head and went down. Hell, the SS sniper wasn’t even looking at trump. IF this were the plan, his instructions would be to kill the shooter after he got his shot off, with the assumption that the shooter would hit his mark.

If you really don’t see the difference in somebody walking up with a concealed pistol and getting a couple of shots off and a guy crawling up a rooftop in plain sight 150 yards away from a former President with a high powered rifle there’s no hope for you.
