I hate social media being used by corporate hr for hiring/firing decisions, but it’s also cathartic to see the shoe on the other foot for a change.

It’s pretty smart tbh. If you’re going to look into their background via employment history and criminal history you probably should look at who is representing you politically. Same would apply to conservatives who rent properties as you don’t want that drama inside your investment.

If you look at social media as the modern day equivalent of the town square it makes perfect sense. You wouldn't hire some lunatic standing on the courthouse steps constantly shouting insanity all day, why should you hire someone doing the same on and online platform with their identity attached?

People need to start viewing social media the same as they view real life interactions with other people, because in today's world it is the same.

I 100% disagree. As a hiring manager, I need to know the type of person i am bringing into my organization. Social media is fair game.

If you’re willing to ignore trying to catch a swinging pendulum to fill your workforce, there’s still an issue of fairness.

Scanning social media doesn’t screen out nut jobs. It just screens out nutjobs that can’t afford services that will scrub the web of their nuttiness.

"Employers don't like hiring leftists..."

bullshite they don't. DEI is still very much alive and well in the application process. Thousands if not millions of applicants are immediately rejected because they don't tick the desired DEI gender and race boxes.

I'm a small business owner. Not that I hire many people, but every time I have, one of the very first questions I ask them is to explain capitalism.

Easiest way ever to weed out Libs. I will not hire them.

Crazy that there are companies are just now catching on to this.

I will state flatly that the Medical, Dental, and Pharmacy schools at UK run a quick social media history on every applicant that is about to receive an acceptance letter. And more than a few have been pulled over social media posts.

I can also state that this is a common practice in professional schools across the country.

There is no need for any explanation. Those applicants simply get a letter that ends with “we wish you the best in your career endeavors”

I really don’t care that much about their actual politics. People can have whatever dumbass position they want.

It might flavor my perception of their reasoning to some degree, but the FAR bigger (and potentially disqualifying) red flag is their inability to police emotions and responses.

Why? If you hire someone that's constantly spouting off divisive political stuff on social media or always protesting the hot button issue of the day, that employee is going to be a higher risk of being a liability for your company later on.

Either them being so outspoken and opinionated creates tension in the workplace with co-workers who don't share the same beliefs. Or they say/do something controversial that riles up the online mob and gets themselves doxed, which is going to probably bring unwanted negative attention and harassment to their employer.

I don’t think the purple hair nose ring brigade cares about scrubbing the web of their nuttiness. It’s a badge of honor

only if hiring whiners doesn't matter to you

and stupid ones at that - most young people whine a lot but many are smart enough to publicize their proclivities for all to see.

I agree. I just am old/young enough to remember that brief window in time when social media was just kids being kids sharing stuff with their friends, before crappy mobile games, parents, and corporate hr took it over. It used to be a fun place to hang out. Now, it’s just an online Stazi. It was nice when young people could have a semi-public/private space for themselves.

Not to mention if they're posting to tik tok from the workplace.
Or they're talking trash on their employers.
And if it was me, I'd be looking for how often (if they do) play their supposed victim hood. That's sure to be an HR issue if they get hired.

Tho too I'd be looking for posts supporting the murder moms too. Not withstanding what they may do at work, I'd just flat outright refuse to have them on payroll.

And the really stupid ones that are connected to their employer's wifi without a VPN when they do it.
Yeah, let's just give your employer a network history to help them with firing these tards.
