Our home backs up to one of those suburban retention ponds, lots of wildlife. Last year, the neighbor lady is in her back yard, and my wife and I are out as well. A male/female pair of ducks waddle up near us, and start mating. Never saw them do that in the open, we all kind of chuckle. But then, it actually looks pretty brutal, the male is biting at her neck, and she looks to be in pain.

Then three more males waddle up, and they go at her. It was an actual duck gang-bang. It was rather disturbing. I read later that the female can actually die from an attack like that. She didn't look well.

But yeah, they mate. Duh. Reminds me of these crazy ladies that want to save every bird that falls out of a nest. Heck, we had a couple mourning dove babies leave the nest outside our door - not five minutes before a hawk swooped down and got 'em both.

Sad in one way, but the hawk needed a meal, so...
