What he understood is that the only thing he truly cared about was winning basketball games, so involving himself in a senate race in a state he no longer lived in that he really didn't care about at all (because it had nothing to do with winning basketball games) made no sense.
As LeBron only seems to care about basketball in so far as it enables him to do other things, he's free to make an arse out of himself in all these others areas.
