In what would amount to a remarkable victory for an effort that faced long odds when it began, organizers claimed Monday that the campaign to recall New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has collected enough signatures to force a vote on whether she may remain in office.

"We are confident we have enough signatures to hand in the petition on Wednesday. We urge residents who are on the fence to sign and help build a cushion," said Eileen Carter, a recall organizer.

Some judge somewhere will find a reason this won't work.

The problem is, through no fault of the organizers, I guarantee there’s a bunch of people who signed it twice, used a fake name that can’t be verified, or signed even though they aren’t registered in Orleans parish. You really need like 120% of the required amount to be sure.

She still won’t be voted out.

Wouldnt surprise me at all if she had people signing that were deliberately ineligible so the organizers would fall short after verification

They don’t know where the goal line is because the Orleans voter rolls haven’t been purged in 50 years.

Doesn’t matter. They had enough signatures to create St.George also and look at what happened. Democrats don’t follow the laws no matter what you think they will allow this?

They have to allow it. If the recall has the needed signature, Destroya is recalled and forced to leave office in disgrace. I suspect she’ll then be indicted in federal court once her term ends for public corruption.

False. If the petition is legally sound, a recall election will be scheduled, likely this fall.

That happens in every recall election, but it seems like this group is independently verifying / throwing out signatures as they go along. This group has been surprisingly well funded and organized.

Some signatures will get tossed. They may fall short. In fact, I still think it's at best a 1 in 5 chance they are successful. But I've been impressed with how professional this effort has been.

They’ve been doing an internal audit, just like they hired an audit company to review the voter roles for the city

They’ve been much more organized than many here give them credit for. From what I’ve read, there’s been some big money behind this effort.
