Russian President Vladimir Putin appears to be transforming Russia into a Soviet-style police state, likely in preparation for expected anti-war sentiment in the Russian population as the Kremlin prolongs the war in Ukraine and prepares for a future war with NATO.

Rodynsk might fall in the next week or two. Which will leave Ukraine forces in Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad one avenue to fall back from the cities if needed. I get hitting Russian infrastructure behind the lines, but really feels like they need to shift a lot of focus to this situation. Could be disastrous for Ukraine in this sector of the Donetsk region.

Are you suggesting they use long-distance drones to... bomb Russian positions on the front?

Separate fronts, separate weapons...

Runs on Ru banks may be starting -

quote:

Money to get out: why depositors began to take funds from banks.

What is behind the outflow of deposits in June and whether the trend can intensify in the autumn?
quote:

June was the first month in 2025, when almost half of large banks recorded the outflow of urgent deposits. Despite the fact that the average yield on deposits is still higher than inflation [uhhh... no], Russians are increasingly taking money. Some – to spend in the summer, others – to repay loans, others – because of distrust and alarming signals from social networks. And although it is too early to talk about a mass outcome, the trend has become noticeable for both banks and the regulator.

The rest of the article is a list of official rationalizations from the Economic Ministers, but there is only one reason for people pulling money out of their banks - lack of fiscal stability in that institution and the unwillingness of the government to do anything about it.

It's a shame.

No, what he is suggesting is that you focus on the alligators at hand chewing your arse, versus some V2 propaganda nonsense.

And judging from the fact this terrorist bombing of civilian sites in Russia is having little effect on Russia's continued progress on the front, its a waste of time and money.,,,,,and lives.

5 Russian fighter jets hit by Ukraine's SBU in drone operation in occupied Crimea, one destroyed

August 4, 2025 1:39 pm (Updated: August 4, 2025 2:05 pm)

Drones operated by Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) struck five Russian fighter jets overnight on Aug. 4 at an airfield in Saky, a city in Russian-occupied Crimea, the agency said.

Ukrainian drones, in a Special Operations Center "A" mission, destroyed a Su-30SM aircraft, damaged another, hit three Su-24s, and struck an aviation weapons depot.

The Saky airbase plays a critical role in Russia's military operations in the Black Sea, and the damage from the Ukrainian strike is considered "significant," with a single Su-30SM jet valued between $35 million and $50 million, according to the SBU.

"The successful special operation carried out by the SBU in Saky marks another step toward weakening the enemy's capacity to wage its war of aggression against Ukraine," SBU said.

The Kyiv Independent could not independently verify the claims.

Russia has not officially commented on the reported strikes.

India oil updates -

Seven million bbls (about 3-4 VLCC cargos) represents 14.7% of IOC monthly crude throughput and only 5% of total Indian refinery input, however it's a start. It's not easy to switch crude sources quickly considering refinery requirements on quality and scheduling / storage logistics.

But they had lots of time to ease into this, time they wasted due to the lure of cheap Ru prices. So no one is feeling sorry for them. In fact, other crude suppliers, particularly ME suppliers, will not make it easy or economical. Yes, prices are very low now but costs are always negotiable. It only takes 2-3 days of demurrage at anchor at load port to send a deal into the red. And even though the Indians won't be chartering the shadow fleet hulks for this, we won't even mention customs inspections at arrival at ME docks. All in all, it's a bad week to stop sniffing glue in Gujarat.

And then there's always a trader that has a genetic inability to follow rules. One or two in every trading floor.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy /
@ZelenskyyUa

Russia is hunting civilians all along the entire front line. The killing of people. The killing of children. Deliberate FPV drone strikes on first responders and medics arriving to help after attacks – all of this is typical for every city or community within reach of Russian drones. The Russian army simply kills everything that is alive.

IOC is barely the largest buyer. Indie refiners are larger as a group. Reliance for its pair of side by side refineries is just a few barrels per day short of this. IOC refineries were originally designed for local and ME crude grades especially Iranian which tends to be heavy high sulfur crude oil, good for making asphalt/tar.

Yes, Reliance and Nayara are the two largest refineries in India. The main refinery for Reliance is the largest in the world. Importantly to this conversation, both are 49% owned by Rosneft, so the pressure on Modi is definitely coming from these two.

However, Rosneft has been exploring a possible sale of all or some of its Reliance shares since the 18th package of EU sanctions was passed. If that's accurate, it speaks volumes about Rosneft's intentions.

I'm sure any sale made will require A.) it be kept secret from Moscow; B.) funds from the sale be deposited in any bank not associated with Moscow; and C.) it be kept secret from Moscow.

Sale...? What sale?

The gap around Pokrovsk and Mrynohrad continues to slowly tighten. Also advances are slowly being made to the north of Lyman. If Russian pulls this off they would be able to roll up the flanks of Ukrainian forces and push to Kramatorsk. That being said who knows if Russia will do this. They’ve shown they don’t really have the ability to think strategically.

There has been some speculation over the last few years that India had a deal with Russia and passing on some of the profits from refining Russian crude. Thus, India was essentially toll refining Russian crude for the EU marketplace. Refined products were the real cash cow for Russia pre 2022, not exports of crude oil.

They haven’t shown the ability to gain an advantage and then quickly use air power, mobile armor and infantry in a coordinated manner to advance quickly.

I think it’s more the lack of execution than the lack of thinking.

The Walker Brigade from old SNL comes to mind at this point. It's not like Russia has shown even an inkling of combined arms tactics since Feb 2022 to begin with
