Was Dresden necessary?

Dresden was nothing but murder on mass scale.

Cash flow and making money are two different things. I don't expect an Aggie to understand such things. FTR, Russia was making much higher profit margins on exports of refined products than directly on oil exports.

Now that India is cutting off Russia, the price they can command is even lower.

Maybe those hydrocracker reactor manufacturers on the Houston Ship Channel can help DUMBASS

How many times do I have to say no it is not ok. I would think anyone would know that two wrongs don't make a right means that it is not ok.

Is Gaza ok?

I mean it sounds terrible to say but in a sense yes. Normandy and Stalingrad was a turning point in the war, but Dresden broke the souls of the German people. War at its core is destroying the will and ability of a people to fight. It's causing so much devastation and destruction that any alternative is better than it and generations after will do and give anything to avoid it. Now you can say it's horrible and it's not right and you are 100% correct about that. That doesn't change the fact though that it is the nature of it. It's been proven at any point in history and it will never change. We have not come as far as we would like to believe.

Ukraine is now engaging Russian forces in southern Pokrovsk and it seems like Russia is slowly advancing into Rodynske just north of Myrnohrad. If Ukraine is conserving any type of artillery or other close support weapon systems now would be the time to start using them. The loss of these cities could be a devastating blow to their ability to conduct any type of operations in this region of the Donetsk Oblast.

What does Gaza have to do with the Ukraine war? Nothing

Ask your question in the Gaza thread.

The fire bombings in Tokyo killed more than the nuclear bomb drops did. War is hell, civilians will die. The best way to avoid civilian deaths is peace, which requires the loser to surrender.

Chasiv Yar has fallen:

If confirmed, the seizure of Chasiv Yar would provide high ground for the Russians, and threaten what is known as Ukraine’s fortress belt of cities in Donetsk region, including Slovyansk, Kramatorsk and Kostyantynivka.

Thanks for the link.

From what the article says this likely won’t allow for a Russian breakout, but will allow Russia to gradually move West.

Dresden was the opening act for Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Still, we're talking about aggressor nations.

I also think Netanyahu is out of control. He's become as much of a monster as Hamas. The "Arab World" is now calling for Hamas to dismantle... and for official Palestinian statehood. And I don't think Netanyahu will want either of those things because it weakens him, politically... though Trump is exerting a pressure campaign like with Brazil and Bolsaro to keep him out of prison in Israel.

The confusion is due to Russian "flag planting". Ru line officers, under pressure from superiors, are sending small teams to sneak into contested areas and quickly plant a Ru flag. Photos of said flag are sent to HQ to prove an attack was successful. These flag planters rarely get out alive, but who cares?

If a Russian is breathing, he's lying. There is a cure however.

Russia has not occupied Chasiv Yar but merely carried out another “flag-planting” stunt behind the lines of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Today, a video surfaced showing Russian troops placing flags in the Shevchenko and Tsekh No. 2 districts. However, Russia does not control the city or the areas where the flags were placed.

Over the past two months, Russian forces have managed only a slight advance from the northeast and east toward the Shevchenko district — and nothing more.

The rest of the activity amounts to covert infiltrations at night, using cloaks for cover, to raise flags in daylight. Most of those “flag-planters” are already dead, as these are effectively one-way missions.

As previously mentioned in the article “Vacation or Death”, Russian troops are promised paid leave for such stunts, and many eagerly agree to take part.

The fact that Ukrainian Defense Forces still control the city is confirmed by both operational-level officers and regular soldiers of the 24th Mechanized Brigade, who are holding the city’s most contested sector.

New York Post...

Trump moves two nuclear subs closer to Russia in response to ‘provocative statements’

By Diana Nerozzi
Published Aug. 1, 2025, 1:29 p.m.

WASHINGTON — President Trump said Friday he had ordered two nuclear submarines moved closer to Russia in response to “highly provocative statements” by a top Kremlin official.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia, had taunted Trump directly in a recent post on X, saying “each new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war.”

“I have ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, without revealing the location of the vessels.

“Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences, I hope this will not be one of those instances,” he added.

Not ideal, a long way from ideal. But we know that commanding officers of US nuclear subs have absolute control of their faculties and are very well versed in clear communication and in maintaining control. Don't think anything is going to happen here, but there's comfort in knowing the best professionals in the world are fully involved.

Also nice to see Trump distancing himself further from the Russians. Even so, let's hope Putin throws a blanket over Menvedev.

And - not trying to piss anyone off here - but I gotta say that Trump may get Epstein off the front pages with this.

Its absolutely hilarious that you were spamming about Trump being a pedo weeks ago, and now nothing because you think hes going to help Ukraine

You also clearly think the average American cares way more about Ukraine than they actually do.

They have occupied the large majority of it with fighting still ongoing on the outskirts of the western side of the city. The question is can Ukraine launch any type of counter attack to push Russia back before they get fully established inside the city.
