More on the Senate Appropriations Committee defense bill. Very early days on any spending bill, but the Ukrainian tranch has the support it needs so far. No one is going to make a successful argument against this bill now and with the current WH attitude a veto would be surprising. That's the current attitude...

By the way, for comparison the 2024 spending bill was $841 billion and there's supposed to be a ceiling of 1% on annual increases.

The 5th Brigade of the Russian 51st Army. It's a mafia, not a military unit, so morale ceased to exist years ago.

quote:

1/ Two battalion commanders have gone missing from a notorious Donetsk-based Russsian army regiment within five days. Russian warbloggers are concerned that the two have been murdered on the orders of their superiors and denounce the regiment's "lawlessness".

2/ The 95th Regiment of the 5th Brigade of the Russian 51st Army has come under renewed scrutiny after two of its battalion commanders – likely captains or majors – disappeared following meetings with their superior officers. 'Petr Lundstrem' writes:

3/ "[The] commander of the 2nd battalion, ... Yuri Burakov, call sign Sedy ... was summoned by the commander of the 95th regiment, call sign Starina – we know the full name of this man.

Since then, Sedy has been missing and has not responded to communication.

4/ "When his wife asked, the regiment commander said that Sedy was a "voluntary deserter".

This is the second battalion commander in 5 days to disappear in this way.

5/ "I appeal to the people holding Sedy and the second battalion commander: everything can still be fixed – return the officers to their units.

There is no need to make them missing in action, there is no need to "zero" [execute] them, there is no need to do irreparable things.

6/ "It will not be possible to hide this, or to make it look like an accident. I promise you that I will personally go to the very top. Not to the command with whom you are in collusion, but to the people who were previously unaware of your existence."

7/ In a subsequent update, Lundstrem claims that an official investigation is underway and that he has "received an unprecedented amount of information from former and current fighters of the 5th brigade and the 95th regiment."

8/ "Most of them, of course, are afraid to speak out openly, because their end may be quick. People are intimidated. But not all...

9/ "I have received information that requires a thorough investigation about: drug trafficking, robberies, looting, extortion, salary theft, trade in fuel and lubricants and humanitarian aid, stolen transport and other details that make your hair stand on end."

10/ It's not clear why Sedy has disappeared, but 'Private Gubarev' suggests (probably correctly) that he has been punished for refusing orders to send his men to their deaths:

11/ "People like Sedy seem to be removed because they refuse to send the remaining personnel to be butchered. This is not the first story I have heard and I think it will not be the last."

12/ Anastasia Kashevarova, who has been campaigning against abuses in the army, is unsurprised. She notes that the 5th brigade has a well-earned reputation for mistreatment of its own men:

13/ "This all happened in the DNR 5th brigade!!! How sick I am of this brigade. Lawlessness is constantly happening there.

People disappear without a trace. I have a whole report on this brigade. I saved so many people from there, and how many I didn't save."

14/ 'When the cannons start singing' objects to it being called a 'Donetsk People's Republic' brigade. It was merged into the Russian army three years ago and is led by Russian officers:

"Why is the 5th "DNR" when it has been Russian for 3 years already?"

15/ "Myasnik Klimenko, who was posthumously awarded the Hero of Russia title, is a Russian general appointed to lead the brigade, not some graduate of the Donetsk military school. And now it is led by Russian officers.

16/ "Moreover, it has always been led by Russian officers and only them, since 2015, and I want to remind you that an attempt to include a fool, like, "hehe, stupid Donbass residents are committing lawlessness" is doomed to failure from the very beginning.

17/ "I remembered [the deceased warblogger] Murz, who complained about how Russian officers destroyed the 5th even before the start of the Special Military Operation in about 2017. It was as if no one knew about this, yeah.

18/ "In the end, all the current "DNR" brigades have long been made up almost entirely of guys who signed contracts in Russia and were born there.

19/ "A friend called me and said that he had never seen so many requests in his life as he had seen from the "DNR" brigades. Why is that? I wonder why there is such a contrast compared to the conventional airborne units from Russia?"

20/ The brigade has been implicated in many reported instances of murder, torture, and corruption over the years. In one of the more notorious cases, men from the brigade tortured to death the pro-Russian American Russell Bentley in April 2024.

21/ 'Black Hundreds Kitchen' comments that "recently, in the remnants of the regiment, there has been a series of murky deaths, disappearances, the testing of soldiers in basements has been put on stream, the regiment is being mercilessly worn down."

22/ "Unfortunately, with the change of command in early 2023, the glorious 123rd regiment of the DPR People's Militia turned into the 95th and became the embodiment of all the worst in the army: …

23/ …meaty crazy assaults, beaten-up drug addict commanders, fake soldiers with fake wounds, business schemes exploiting Russian blood.

24/ "The most fabulous swindlers began to find refuge in the 95th regiment: ... one crazy commander was replaced by another, even crazier commander, and the situation of ordinary soldiers and honest officers became worse and more unenviable.

25/ "All the competent authorities and the government have long been aware of what is happening in the 5th Brigade, to which the 95th Regiment belongs, some steps are being taken, but the millstones grind very slowly, and our people continue to disappear and die there." /end

Here we go again, the latest raid on the Russian National Welfare Fund. This time for 300 billion Rubles.

Prediction - Over this week, by holding this 300 billion, the bank's balance sheets will show this for their reserve reporting. But next week the Ru Central Bank will announce another substantial 'offering' of Repo debt, which these banks will be forced to buy. Thus these NW Funds get laundered through the banks and into the hands of the Kremlin. This has been the pattern since January.

Check out the bottom right figures, 2024 to 2025 balances -

quote:

Very strange news. Today it became known that VTB Bank received 200 billion rubles from the Fund. It seems to me that they are preparing some large-scale scheme for withdrawing money from the Fund and transferring it in the form of subordinated debt to the balance sheets of banks.

In May, they already issued subordinations for 360 billion rubles to 5 banks, allegedly for construction. But this is all a lie. The real goal is to maintain the liquidity of banks.

The lack of capital of Russian banks is their sore spot.
quote:

For example, in December, the head of the VTB board stated that the bank had a deficit of instant liquidity of 1 trillion rubles. I think in reality everything is much worse. Now the quality of loan portfolios is rapidly deteriorating
quote:

At the beginning of the war in 2022, the regulator sharply weakened the reserve requirements, then it began to increase them, but faced sharp criticism, and the process stopped. And now the situation in the Russian economy is rapidly deteriorating, which means that loan portfolios are also rapidly deteriorating.
quote:

Therefore, the Government is starting a program of tacit recapitalization through the issuance of subordinated loans from the National Welfare Fund.
quote:

Taking into account the news today about VTB, 550 billion rubles have already been spent since the beginning of the year. I think that this is only a small part of what Russian banks need

2.Sberbank
3.VTB
4.Gazprombank
5.Sovcombank

Ukraine has approximately 880,000 military and 123,000 have deserted since the start of the war, 60,000 from Jan to Oct of 24 so its increasing significantly.

zelensky is now asking for help in paying the soldiers.....where is all the money going??????

First he would not even take the bodies back so he could avoid paying insurance to the families, now he wont pay them while they are alive.

How can anyone continue to defend this money laundering machine, at the expense of 100s of thousands of lives?

No worries, Im sure cope will be here to tell us about the next miracle weapon to change the war...V2 anyone?

Russian attacks kill 3, injure 37 over past day

August 1, 2025 9:13 am

The aftermath of the Russian strike against the Synelnykove district in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast overnight on Aug. 1, 2025. (Dnipropetrovsk Governor Serhii Lysak / Telegram)

Russian attacks against Ukraine have killed at least three civilians and injured at least 37 others over the past day, regional authorities reported on Aug. 1.

Russian forces launched 72 Shahed-type drones from Russia's Millerovo, Kursk, and Primorsk-Akhtarsk airfields against Ukraine overnight, according to Ukraine's Air Force.

Ukraine's air defense and electronic warfare intercepted 44 drones, while another 28 reached their targets at nine locations in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts.

In Donetsk Oblast, Russian attacks killed two people and injured 11 in the city of Kramatorsk, while another six suffered injuries in the embattled town of Pokrovsk. Two people were also injured in the front-line town of Kostiantynivka and another one in the village of Sviatohorivka, Governor Vadym Filashkin reported.

In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Russian attacks killed a 63-year-old man and injured another five in the Zaporizhzhia district. Russian forces launched 614 strikes across 12 localities in the region in the past day, according to the local military administration.

In Kherson Oblast, Russia targeted 32 settlements, including the regional center of Kherson, over the past day. As a result of the attacks, six people were injured, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported.

In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Russia attacked the Synelnykove district, injuring a 35-year-old woman, as well as a 4-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl. Both children were hospitalized. Another Russian attack against the Marhanets community injured a 25-year-old man, Governor Serhii Lysak reported.

In Kharkiv Oblast, two men, aged 51 and 54, suffered injuries in the Russian strikes against the town of Kupiansk, Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported.

Nearly 7000 drones and rockets a month says that strategy might need a little adjustment.

When you are perilously close to losing the major crossroads on the front line.....ya might want to keep your focus a little closer to home. Course that would imply you actually care about the soldiers dying on the front ill equipped and unpaid, versus a headline grabbing new whiz bang rocket hitting targets "deep within Russia".

Which is what I'm saying. They impacted their oil industry with the refinery strikes, but it was far more hype than substance in terms of the impact on the front.

I remember when the refinery strikes were in full swing.. youd have people saying that this is going to kill their economy, and then you'd have the exact same people later saying that Russia wasn't even making money on oil anyway right now

Ukraine's Military Inteliigence (GUR) has exposed the Russian officer responsible for ordering Shahed drone strikes on civilians.

Lieutenant Colonel Ruslan Nikolaevich Negrub commands the separate unmanned aircraft brigade “GROM Kaskad,” military unit 35666-B, based in Korenovsk, Krasnodar Krai.

He is a graduate of the Stavropol Higher Military Aviation Engineering School.

This is the man directing drone attacks on Ukrainian cities.

Can you explain how this war is a money laundering machine? (As opposed to just a war?

As for who can defend Russia's invasion of Ukraine costing over 1 million dead.... no one. It's totally indefensible. So you're correct there.

You said Trump was gonna cut off the money. If he's still sending it l, I guess he's comfortable with what's happening to it

Russia calls it the Shahed. They're desperately ramping up production to hopefully kill enough Ukrainian civilians to break their spirit. Very similar to V2s, yes. Just not quite as accurate

I.wonder if Russia will build a statue to him like Britain did to Bomber Harris?

Civilians killed in Dresden vs. Civilians killed in Ukraine?
Civilians.killed in Hamburg vs. Civilians killed in Ukraine?

And for you Israel Firsters:
Civilians killed in Gaza vs. Civilians killed in Ukraine?

Sorry Bagdad Bob of Kiev. Your numbers can't match up to what our "allies" have done. Or if you want the truth what we have done. If you want to really talk about murder, horror and terror go do some research on Dresden.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Is a moral principle emphasizing that one bad action doesn't excuse another.

In other words, none of your examples are an excuse for russia targeting Ukrainian civilians.

Yea, but at the same time it's war. Civilians causalities are never celebrated but at the same time it's an unfortunate necessary evil of the process. Has been since the beginning of time and will be until the end of it.

And that is exactly what I said. Two wrongs don't make a right. But Russia is not the only guilty party. The numbers in Gaza dwarf the numbers in Ukraine.
