Exactly. Russia doesnt see a need to negotiate because they are going to win in the end.
Maybe Russia's economy breaks this year. Russia lot 80% of its natural gas exports. Whoopee, it has a pissant pipeline to China and made a deal to sell at cost to build another one. It is not profiting very much on oil exports. Gross sales does not equal net profit. It has a high cost to produce and get to point of export due it's major inefficiencies.
Russia had thought that it would make lots of profit by value added products and why it spent a lot of money in upgrades and expansions of old inefficient refineries. While some ot the drone strikes did not actually refinieries but instead things like butamer units and isomerization units used to make octane enhaners from NGLs for gasoline, there has been some impact from drone strikes on refinery production capacities, More important as this was not over in a few days, parts wear out and technology for its refinery upgrades and expansions came from the West along with a lot of the skilled labor to build them. Outside the immediate Moscow and St. Petersburg areas, skilled labor is almost nonexistent in Russia. It has basically toothless drunkles who cannot bolt to flanges up together properly.

That should get the Ruskies to the peacetalks table!
But they don't yet seem interested.

This is a response to the entire thread, I had to click on someone's reply link.
This thread is so full of half-truths it is ridiculous.
Yes thinks are not super great in Russia. They are fighting a war. Guess what things are worse in Ukraine. People die in wars. The citizens of Russia and Ukraine will both likely "lose".
All of this could have been avoided, however, the people in charge aren't risking their lives. So What's a few hundred thousand lives here and there. The total is well over a million now.
Russia is gaining ground at increasing rates. This is in part because the Ukrainian troops numbers are getting smaller. Russia is getting voluntary recruits that have usually exceeded loses.
Russia just took control of a huge lithium deposit worth trillions.
Anyone telling you Ukraine is winning is wrong. The only real question is how much will Russia's victory cost them?

Ukraine adds experience fighting the one country NATO was founded to contain and protect its members against. They also have a booming arms industry in the country right now. They've innovated where NATO would've been caught flat footed if anything went down. The Baltic States are very glad they weren't first... they now have a better idea of how to counterattack and how quickly.
You make good points, but ignore the fact that Ukrsine is already in a war.

I agree unless you define winning as still fighting with 80% of the country still in Ukrainian control.

True, thus could result in a war where both sides lose similar to WWI where Germany, France and England all lost.

Does not matter one iota. It took 8 or more years for nations to get accepted into NATO post 1992. The hardest part was cleaning up corruption which was rampant in the USSR.

It could have been avoided in 2014 if Obama had of supported Ukraine per our agreement, albeit not a treaty.
Maybe if Putain did not want to take freedom from Ukrainian citizens. Remember it was over 10,000 private gun owners who showed up to fight in 2022 not just military. Farmers were ready to haul away tanks with their tractors.
So they have increased taking land? Russia holds less territory than in March of 2022. In SOME areas they take as much as a football field per day, that 100 yards by 50 yards. A phucking snail would have reached Kyiv by now.
Russia holds two of the known lithium deposits in Ukraine. There has been no mining yet. We are finding lithium all over the freaking place now that we are looking. Russia did take large coal deposits which were heavily subsidized, more than the revenue they produced. Russia has taken area where Shell was given concessions to drill for oil/gas in tight shale formations. Russia doesn't have the technology/expertise to do this and neither does China.
So stop with the half truths..

No... they won't be admitted until the War is over.

Ukraine has been cleaning up its corruption (despite the repeated chorus of Putin-Bros claims) all during this war... especially within the military. It's probably still got a ways to go, but it's started.

Tell us the path/procedure that one gets kicked out of Nato?
Or the EU for that matter. Who has ever been kicked out of either?

You don’t add members already involved in a war unless you plan on fighting yourself.
It is actually impossible. It is against NATO doctrine. You cannot even get in if you have occupied regions of your country.
Why do you think Russia occupied parts of Moldova and Georgia? It essentially blocks both from Nato according to NATO's own rules.

The Baltic States are definitely on Putin's menu. They have been de-Russifying vigorously now that they are independent and their former Russian over-lords aren't happy about that.

There is a first for everything.
DailyNewsHungary: This is how Hungary could be kicked out of the EU
DailyNewsHungary: Here is why NATO could kick out Hungary at any time!

Excuse me if that was covered her already (or in the old thread), but here's story published today:
Kyiv Independent: Ukraine’s new interceptor UAVs are starting to knock Russia’s long-range Shahed drones out of the sky
Interceptor drones, funded by the Prytula Foundation. The foundation reported that each drone costs under $2,000 and is successful in downing Russian drones like the Geran.

From Al Jazerra......
Well well, America First, imagine that. Next thing you know we will be concerned about Social Security instead of paying the pensions of ukranians.
