The Ukraine is the natural buffer that the Poles, Germans, and the rest of Europe are going to want to keep the Russians at bay, and since we can't be trusted anymore to protect them, there is going to be an organized effort to get them in.

Draw a line from Berlin to Moscow and you don’t go through Ukraine. To go from Warsaw to Moscow you don’t go through Ukraine. Paris to Moscow? No Ukraine.

Now Ukraine is a buffer between Western Europe and Southern Russia.

FWIW, Hitler’s drive to Moscow did not go through Ukraine.

NATO isn’t going to let Ukraine in as long as there is the war and Russian occupation.

Hosted FM Lavrov for timely talks in Tehran.

We covered everything from Europe to West Asia, including Lebanon, Palestine, Ukraine and Yemen. Also focused on expansion of economic and nuclear cooperation.

Never in our history have Iran and Russia worked as closely as now.

But we have to have Russian diesel.
But we can’t let Ukraine have Patriots to defend themselves
But we have to cut back on Starlink to open Kiev to air attack

Because why???

Who is the current closest competitor to Starlink? How large is their constellation? Who controls it?
I can't say who is Starlink's closest (non-government) competitor but a guess based on financial backing would be Amazon Leo.
quote:

As of July 2026, Amazon Leo has launched 396 production satellites with a planned 3,236-satellite low Earth orbit (LEO) constellation by mid-2029.
Another entrant would be OneWeb, based on number of satellites.
quote:

OneWeb operates a mature low Earth orbit constellation providing enterprise-focused satellite internet services with 648 satellites currently deployed.
As a comparison, Starlink currently has "9,422+" satellites. Probably more since this article came out in January.

As to sheer size of arrays, the Chinese systems are going to be the biggest. SpaceSail (Qianfan Constellation) will have 15,000 by 2030, China Satellite Network (Guowang) will have 12,992. by the same date. Finally, a third Chinese constellation will be from Hongqing Technology with 10,000 satellites planned, adding further competitive pressure.

Other items of interest -
quote:

In October 2025, Viasat was selected by the U.S. Space Force Space Systems Command as a prime contractor for the Protected Tactical SATCOM-Global program, demonstrating its expertise in secure, military-grade satellite communications.
quote:

Jupiter 3, also known as (a.k.a.) EchoStar XXIV (24), is a communications satellite operated by Hughes Network Systems, the satellite was built by Maxar Technologies in Palo Alto, California. When launched, the satellite held the title of the largest commercial communications satellite ever built. It weighs approximately nine tons and is nearly as large as a school bus, when its 14 solar panels are fully deployed, they could span a 10-story building.
quote:

It doesn't do any good for Europe to go with another commercial provider if they will be subject to the same concerns about control that they currently have with Starlink. These need to be government-controlled systems, not commercially owned.
I agree, but with the K Street lawyers these telecom groups can buy it's not likely. But the ground relay terminals are clearly within jurisdiction for some heavy regulation at minimum.
quote:

Do you think Europe would give China control over Europe's use of China's system? Same issue they have with the US today. So the European governments are going to need to put up their own systems, not rely on 3rd parties.
Hell no on the Chinese control, yes on the European governments going with their own systems.

Why do I think that? Because it will be an enormous source of revenue. They're late getting into the race, but since Elon has gifted them a new start, this will definitely happen.

Starlink has peaked from a revenue standpoint due to the Elon Factor and all growth in this industry - and it will be huge - will be going elsewhere now.

Again, Musk has permanently changed the way communication is handled. He built the industry and had the competition overwhelmed. Then he met Donald Trump and ETTD.

Ask yourself this, eurofag. If so many great alternatives exist, why all the crying and propagandizing over Elon at all?

Time will tell. I'd bet $100 that 5 years from now, Starlink will be the dominant provider by at least 75% over its competitors.

One of the keys to good debating is not to ask a question you don't already know the answer to.

Because Musk, like yourself, is emotionally immature. "Eurofag"? When does recess start?

But unlike yourself, Musk is insanely rich and influential. So he attracts a lot of attention. Again, unlike yourself.

Once again, we can all see you didn't read the article. Yet here you are, criticising someone who did and quoted from it extensively.

Maybe if you would take yourself seriously, other would as well.

Wall street doesn't agree with your assessment that Starlink has peaked and its all down hill from here.

https://finance.yahoo.com/technology/articles/elon-musk-coming-phone-bill-155502081.html
quote:

Two Wall Street firms put out bullish notes on SpaceX (SPCX) on Oct. 11 and 12, and they're more connected than they first appear. Pivotal Research raised its price target from $220 to $230 and kept a Buy rating. It believes SpaceX's planned purchase of 800 MHz spectrum licenses could help Starlink compete with AT&T (T), Verizon (VZ), and T-Mobile (TMUS) as a phone carrier. It builds on SpaceX's roughly $20 billion deal for EchoStar's (ECHO) spectrum, agreed in 2025 and set to close fully in 2027. Pivotal expects Starlink Mobile to reach 50 million U.S. subscribers by 2036, about 13% of the market. Meanwhile, Morgan Stanley reiterated its $300 target ahead of Starship Flight 15, tentatively set for Nov. 8

Btw, annual revenue for SpaceX
2023: 10.39B
2024: 14.02B
2025: 18.87B
2026: 25-45B
They are climbing fast; they haven't even begun to peek.

Maybe I should start spamming pro-Ukraine slop articles from the same 3 sources on a college football message board, mostly during Ukranian business hours, to a consistent audience of about 5 people. Would that attract some attention?

Are you sure? Look at it not just geographically, but militarily.

Look at where Russia is now, stuck in a war for the last 4 1/2 years in Ukraine. Ukraine has been EXACTLY the kind of buffer I'm talking about, and when you start to take into consideration logistics, information, drone and missile technology, migration, and now things like Startink you start to see why it's a natural buffer for the rest of Europe - the Russians can't attack Germany or Poland when they've got a NATO member directly to the south of their axis of attack.

Do you know what it's going to do to Russia to have their control of the Black Sea directly challenged by a coalition of NATO navies??? Do you understand the threat that poses to Russia? Probably not, but it's, in the words of our president HUUUUGGGEEE.

Ukraine is going to be in. It's in everybody's best interest, and it's only a matter of time.

Remember, decisions on satellite-based communications will be major budgetary items for customers. Musk has already become toxic to a significant segment of individual homeowners/small businesses and history tells us he will drive further segments away with future antics.

But the major customer base - governments and corporations - are strongly risk adverse and make these decisions accordingly. What will legal say and what will the insurers say? Does anyone want to be tied to someone likely to throw up another Nazi salute in a ketamine haze? When there are viable and cost effective options?

Technology can only carry you if you have a monopoly. If you don't, then it's like all other business and finance will determine success. Risk adverse corporate finance and risk adverse government finance. Immature Dunning Kruger cases like Musk will not be welcome in that conversation.

Idk if you've been paying attention or not, but apparently there are plenty of alternatives. Only problem is that no one can name any

Well then, let Musk just turn off Starlink for both Russia and Ukraine and let them find their own solution.

Musk doesn't owe Ukraine shite. And you are a most ungrateful Ukrainian. Let Ukraine build its own Starlink if they get their panties in a wad over how Musk runs it. FAFO.
