But the major customer base - governments and corporations - are strongly risk adverse and make these decisions accordingly. What will legal say and what will the insurers say? Does anyone want to be tied to someone likely to throw up another Nazi salute in a ketamine haze? When there are viable and cost effective options?

Technology can only carry you if you have a monopoly. If you don't, then it's like all other business and finance will determine success. Risk adverse corporate finance and risk adverse government finance. Immature Dunning Kruger cases like Musk will not be welcome in that conversation.

You're a fricking idiot.

Look at where Russia is now, stuck in a war for the last 4 1/2 years in Ukraine. Ukraine has been EXACTLY the kind of buffer I'm talking about, and when you start to take into consideration logistics, information, drone and missile technology, migration, and now things like Startink you start to see why it's a natural buffer for the rest of Europe

It’s not a buffer, it’s bait.

I'd like to see a legit case for this that doesn't involve pie-in-the-sky narratives about Ukranian tech and manufacturing.

Wall street doesn't agree with your assessment that Starlink has peaked and its all down hill from here.
These are projections about SpaceX, the parent holding company, not Starlink. SpaceX is comprised of Starlink, StarShield, launch facilities, spacecraft, AI and data centers and uh, Twitter.

No, you're just angry at being confronted with an uncomfortable truth.

"Does anyone want to be tied to someone likely to throw up another Nazi salute in a ketamine haze?"

What part of that statement is not true? Take your time.

You can call it whatever you want, now the Ukrainians can fight and they hate the Russians. There will absolutely be the "you can attack (fill in the blank country) but you're going to have to go through the Ukraine to do it" warning once this war is over. Ukraine will do whatever it takes to join NATO and when that happens the ability for Russia to project ANY power in the West whatsoever is going to be castrated.

Surely, you can see that, can't you b? Don't tell me you're like Vol, so angry at being wrong that you can't see the obvious.....

No anger here at all; I disagree with your assessment of Starlink's future.

And my assessment of you still holds.

Yes, there may be outliers like an Orban, or Trump, or Le Penn that keeps them out, but mainstream Europe is going to push very hard to get them in, so expect to it happen sometime in the coming decades after this war is over.

There are conditions which have to be met first. Cleaning up corruption is one of them. That was said to be one of the main reasons that Putin pulled Russia out of the partnership with NATO when he wanted in without those conditions. Additionally, Russia didn't want to have collaboration with weapons.

Well then, let Musk just turn off Starlink for both Russia and Ukraine and let them find their own solution.

I thought Trump gave the orders?
Wrong?

Who knows?

I assume Elon can turn Starlink on or off for whoever he wants to. Maybe he should just re-enable it for Russia. I think I've made it very clear over the last 4 years of this thread that I'm pro-Ukraine, anti-Russia. That hasn't changed, but Ukraine, or at least Cope, seems to think that US arms and technology are some kind of obligation the world owes them.

Absolutely. Their disagreements with the Poles and other peoples around them are others.

But Ukraine is going to have to make a choice, and I argue they already have. Do they want to exist or not, both nationally and individually. They've already started on the corruption and it's clear Z wants out of office the second this war is over, so there is hope for the future there. (Plus, if corruption was an absolute killer there would be a few other countries who weren't apart of it *cough* TURKEY *cough* UNITED STATES* cough)

Guys, this is going to happen. I don't have a timeline, but it's clear Russia can't be trusted and since even teh dissolution of the USSR wasn't enough to stop Russia from attacking them losing this war isn't either. This war just has to end first.

They mistake being the good guy in this specific conflict with people liking them, thinking they are important, and/or thinking people won't just cut them off. When your defining feature is your proximity to someone else, youre not actually yourself important.

Ukraine should be thankful for the aid they have received from us and others.
I believe they are, but people twist things to fit their agenda.

Trump though had been all over the place. His position changes with the wind.

That's an option he has right now, and it's arguably the best one since he provides no unique knowledge or skillset that can't be gotten from someone else and it gives Ukraine a shot at turning over a new leaf with the Trump admin.

I can't say who is Starlink's closest (non-government) competitor but a guess based on financial backing would be Amazon Leo.

No one is close to Starlink in competition. Europe is Single A baseball compared to Major League Starlink. SpaceX is profitable because of Starlink. Starbase Louisiana will make it bigger than everyone else combined, including nations, by a lot. I'm not even mentioning the space data centers. Unless something surprising happens, SpaceX will be equivalent to Standard Oil of 1900 AND the OPEC of 2000, combined.

Good post. The value of infrastructure and current contracts alone makes them nigh unassailable by any non-government entity, and there are only a few governments who could compete (and that's only if they went all-in).
