2 Months Under Drapaty: Ukraine’s Army Is Winning

It's true that the offensive has gained steam since Drapatyi was made commander, but Operation Vivaldi was planned and begun under Syrskyi.
I'm happy to give Drapatyi his props, but that article is giving him more credit than he deserves.

Vivaldi took months to plan.

Bad managers micro-manage. Good managers recognize and hire talent, put them in place and then let them do their jobs with minimal interference. This seems to be Drapaty's command practice, which is a big change from Syrskyi.
Younger first-line commanders are now given control of movement in their sectors and no longer have to wait for permission while HQ sifts all the options. By the time HQ's decision is made, the situation on the front has changed completely.
This and the improved EW cover are the drivers of Vivaldi.

Ukraine is an essential testing ground for all things drone warfare related. We should give DARPA extensive access.

If Putin makes it to Jan 1st. I will be surprised.

You may be right, but in my relatively uninformed opinion, the upper echelons of Russian politics, military and money are all tied to Putin. The Russian people also tolerate it.

Petrochemical center located just east of the Urals. 1700km from front lines.
Edited to add: The Salavat Oil Refinery, also in Bashkortostan, was also attacked.

Ukrainian drones struck the Sasta machine-tool plant in Sasovo, Ryazan Oblast, overnight, triggering explosions and a large fire. The site also houses Yandex’s largest data center, which reportedly halted operations after power supply problems. Multiple Yandex Cloud components were disrupted. Sasta produces CNC machine tools used by Russia’s defense, aerospace, transport and heavy industries and is under international sanctions.
quote:
Sasta specializes in manufacturing CNC machine tools, including five-axis machining centers, turn-mill systems, and heavy-duty machine tools. Its equipment is used in Russia’s defense, aerospace, transport, and heavy industries. The plant itself states that it is included in Russia’s consolidated register of defense industry organizations.
The company’s importance to Russia’s military-industrial complex lies in providing manufacturing capabilities: its machine tools are needed to produce high-precision metal parts and assemblies, rather than finished weapons. Sasta previously supplied specialized machine tools to enterprises within the Tactical Missiles Corporation and Roscosmos.

"completely down" may be an understatement.

Even Russian military bloggers are done pretending the terror campaign is strategy.
They now admit the strikes on civilians won’t change Russia’s trajectory. The war is being lost, and the mass murder serves one purpose: satisfying the dictator’s appetite.
Four years in, the economy is depleted. The front is grinding backward. All that’s left is killing for the sake of killing.
Russia is losing. It knows it.

The EU just moved another €1.24 billion into Ukraine’s defense industrial base under the €90 billion Ukraine Support Loan.
This tranche funds drones, drone interceptors, drone ammunition, and missiles produced by Ukrainian manufacturers.
Brussels plans €28.3 billion in defense disbursements next year, with €15.4 billion still available in 2026.
The money is already converting into firepower.
