I spoke with Victor again this morning. He is retiring end of this month but others soon. The harvest is Russia is already forecast to be not so great. The only impact should be Turkey and nearby nations. The world has a LOT of surplus grain left over from last year.

Russian grain production peaked in 2022 (what a coincidence!) at 157 million tons.
The last two years have been about 140 million tons.
This year is projected to be about 135 million tons.
If they can't get their diesel fuel production back online, they'll be lucky to do 125 million next year.
For reference it bottomed out in the 1990s in the 80 million ton range. But at least back then they had diesel fuel.
Meanwhile the USA will set another record at around 420 million tons this year.

Because US farmland is more suitable for crop production with the majority of it being corn.

Well. Yeah. We have better farm land than Russia. Sure.
But we also have a few other important things, like: better farmers. A functional capitalist economy. A functional credit market. A history of innovation. Modern infrastructure. Roads (important). Research and Development. Government assistance rather than government theft. Modern machinery. Private ownership. Warm water ports. Good customers. And a population that isn't being pressed into war service.
All things that Russia doesn't have. So. You know. All that adds up.
All the more reason why a 3rd world backwater like Russia fricked up by invading Ukraine. They don't have the balls to hang with western economies.

We actually suppress some pure capitalist components of our ag industry with stricter regulations and government subsidies, and still do better than Russia (and most countries FWIW). Russia has price controls on some ag products... A socialist relic of another time.

My point is that it doesn't matter the market is a glut without Russia's harvest. He said this morning that it is a weather issue.
Just because something looks like a big number doesn't mean that it is big by comparison. He doesn't go by government forecasts.
