Death toll from Russian attack on Kyiv rises to 12

VALENTYNA ROMANENKO — 6 July, 12:45

The death toll from the massive Russian attack on Kyiv on 6 July has risen to 12.

Source: Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko; Tymur Tkachenko, Head of Kyiv City Military Administration

Details: "As of 12:20, we have 12 confirmed dead from the Russian attack on Kyiv," Tkachenko said.

According to the authorities, the number of casualties varies. The head of Kyiv City Military Administration says that after cross-referencing data from medics, it emerged that 49 people have been injured in the capital.

Klitschko reported that over 50 people were injured.

President Zelenskyy previously said almost 60 people had been injured in the capital.

The rubble removal and on-site rescue operations are continuing non-stop.

Background:

On the night of 5-6 July, Russia launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine using strike drones as well as air-, land- and sea-launched missiles of various types. Ukrainian air defences downed 363 of the 419 aerial targets launched. However, 29 ballistic missiles and 18 attack drones struck targets at 34 locations across the country.
While the air defence forces had a very high success rate in shooting down Russian cruise missiles and drones, not a single ballistic missile was intercepted. Ukraine's Air Force spokesperson Yurii Ihnat explained why this is the case.

By today, the Omsk refinery had remained one of only two refineries in the top 10 that had never been hit by Ukrainian drones. The other is the Angarsk Petrochemical Company in Irkutsk Oblast. Both are beyond the Urals.
It was counted on to balance out the fuel crisis after the successful campaign by Ukraine’s Defense Forces (to grasp the scale: its capacity is nearly double that of the Moscow refinery).
It is also the only Russian refinery that produces cracking catalysts, meaning the component on which secondary refining at other plants depends.

I’m not pro-china . I am anti-war. And if it weren’t for the west funding Taiwan this war would have been over four years ago and a million people would still be alive. There is absolutely nothing sacrosanct whatsoever about the 1949 border of Taiwan. Taiwan has been within the Chinese sphere of influence for the past 1,000 years. And here is my prediction (my first, I think): it doesn’t matter how long our country prolongs this war and how much human suffering it causes, Taiwan will be in china’s sphere of influence again by the end of it. I certainly could be wrong. I accept that possibility. Certainly china continues to advance on the battlefield. That is objectively the case.

Look TigerNate, I drafted your talking points for you so you’ll have them handy when China invades Taiwan, you can thank me later.

Not quite double but close. Catalyst manufacturing is a separate business not part of refining. If there is little to no feedstock to FCC or hydrocracking units, It matters little that it is manufactured at that site. However, logistics matters and being not so close to where main consumption is does cost real money to transport. This further strains Russia's logistics network and leaves those who rely on its products, shiite out of luck.

An FCC unit basically has a controlled fire to break down heavies into motor fuels and gases. Pressure is not high, but temperature is.

Awesome strike. Seriously, look at Omsk on a map.

Ukraine also hit two other refineries last night:

- Yaroslavl again (hit on June 28)
- Pervy Zavod refinery in the Kaluga region

Two shadow fleet tankers were delivering fuel from the Taganrog area to Crimea across the Sea of Azov, each carrying 7,000 tons of fuel (the equivalent of 200 rail tank cars).

Taiwan will be united with the PRC in our lifetime. I don’t see how anyone who observed the outcome in Iran could come to any other conclusion. Probably Taiwan will be united with the PRC without a single shot being fired though.

What is the "outcome" observed in Iran, exactly?

If you subtract the breakthrough Nate reported, it would only be 2 KM.

Excellent news, Omsk is the largest refinery in Russia and is in excess of 3,000km from Ukraine. That leaves only one major refinery that hasn't been hit, the Chernigov Refinery in the far east. There are two in Eastern Siberia, but they are much smaller.

Ukraine's General Staff confirmed a strike on the Omsk Oil Refinery, reporting a fire after impacts. It said the ELOU-AVT-11 primary crude processing unit, with a design capacity of 8.4 million tonnes per year, was preliminarily hit. The General Staff describes Omsk as Russia's largest oil refinery, with annual refining capacity exceeding 21 million tonnes and producing gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, lubricants and petrochemical products.

Fire Point chief designer and co-owner Denys Shtylerman said modified Ukrainian FP-1 drones are now capable of flying up to 3,400 km.
