quote:Russia has been trying to take down the government of Ukraine for almost 4 years costing almost 1,000,000 Russian casualties.
Coming from Russia that’s rich.
The U.S. takes down the Russian-supported government of Venezuela in about 45 minutes on a Saturday morning without a single U.S. casualty.

This is the biggest reason that last night is a disaster for Putin.

Maybe they can hire a good lawyer for him.

Russia gins up some BS about Ukraine going after Putin’s home and less than a week later the US snatches a foreign president ftom his home.
You have to appreciate the irony in all this.

Recent news involving Venezuela and Iran have made me feel a lot more optimistic about the future post-Putin. Whoever takes power will have a much smaller global sphere of influence, and that's a very good thing.
I upvoted this because there's a glimmer of hope here but let's also be honest.
We have a HORRIBLE record of pulling crap like this and messing it up, especially in places like South America. I have absolutely no faith in this administration to bring long-term stability to this abused country or have an actual vision for it, and I would bet a month's pay the two primary objectives for this operation were 1) Turning Venezuela into a vassal state for oil companies and 2) A way to turn people's heads away from the massive issues this administration are creating.
Hope we're right on this.

The Russians appear to be advancing rapidly in Kostyantynivka. Given its immense strategic importance to Ukraine’s defense of Donetsk this is quite a big deal.

Rybar’s current assessment for comparison. Interestingly, Rybar seems a bit more conservative than ISW as to Russia’s progress -

This map shows the Russian advances in 6-month increments starting in January 2024.
The large reddish area is what they took before Jan 2024.
Bright Red and Orange are what they took in 2024
Yellow and Green are what they took in 2025

Depends on what Russia is when (or if) they become capable of doing anything again. Is the next guy an extension of the Putin regime, something better or something worse?
There's a Russian guy on youtube doing videos from Kazakhstan, I think, who likes to remind people "Putin did not make Russia, Russia made Putin!”
