Chinese, North Korean, Russian, Iranian... all spend all day getting Americans pissed at each other, and often the accounts are not coherent in what they support/scream about (because it's different people posting in them on different shifts).
Agreed,

I know a lot of actual "Oliver Stone"-type far leftists, they think Putin is being lied about and is a benevolent leader, NATO is "literally the reincarnation of the Third Reich," and China is "humanity's only hope." They're also pro-Iran because they're so anti-Israel/pro-Palestine. And the US is "evil," no matter what...
Fully agreed, the US has done more for humanity than any nation in history.
From our famine relief in Latin America in the early 1800s, the Potato Famine in Ireland, the First Armenian Genocide, the ARE in Europe during and post WWI.
Some people need to wake up to what a world not led by the US means.

SIGINT mistakes are the worst mistakes.
Dumbass.

1/ The Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Mikhail Gudkov, may have inadvertently revealed his position in an insecure radio call, enabling Ukraine to kill him on Wednesday. Ukraine may also have tried to assassinated him on 30 May near Vladivostok.
![]()
2/ Gudkov was reported to have been killed on 2 July at Korenevo in the Kursk region by a Ukrainian missile strike. The VChK-OGPU Telegram channel reports that the general may have inadvertently given away his own position to Ukrainian signals interception.
3/ The channel reports that according to an account that is circulating, on 2 May "Vladivostok celebrated its City Day. The military, including Mikhail Gudkov, while in the Kursk region, could call each other and exchange congratulations over an unprotected connection."
"Thus revealing themselves and becoming a target for a missile strike."

If tweet fails to load, click here.
4/ It also reports that two explosions on 30 May near Vladivostok, attributed to a Ukrainian sabotage attack, may have also targeted Major General Gudkov.
5/ The Kyiv Independent reported that a source in Ukraine's military intelligence agency HUR told it that an attack was carried out against a checkpoint and "the location of personnel and the unit's command". However, the exact nature of the target was not disclosed.
6/ According to the VChK-OGPU Telegram channel, the target may have been Major General Mikhail Gudkov, who was promoted to the post of the Russian Navy's Deputy Commander-in-Chief after commanding the 155ths Guards Naval Infantry Brigade, based in Desantnaya Bay.
![]()
7/ Russia seemingly tried to cover up the attack, which was likely highly embarassing for the authorities, given that it was 9,000 km away from Ukraine. It was officially attributed to "the ignition of cylinders with a propane-butane mixture in one of the cars".
8/ However, the security forces' response was very abnormal for such a scenario. Tight restrictions were put on local employees and officials, riot police and medical teams were sent to secure the site, and the Investigative Committee (Russia's FBI) began an investigation.
9/ VChK-OGPU reports that Gudkov was known to have been "there very often", which suggests that Ukraine had detailed knowledge of his movements when it carried out the attack. The Russians claimed that the explosions had not caused any casualties.
10/ The fact that Gudkov seems to have been targeted again only a few weeks later, this time successfully, suggests that Ukraine considered him to be a high-value target and had continued to track him across Russia. /end

We talked about this a lot here a few years ago.
In my opinion, if the US is not the big dog internationally - though we're far from perfect and screw stuff up - someone much worse is going to be (probably China).
And I don't like that we're abdicating that role. I think Trump and others are more interested in turning force internally to thwart social progress they don't like (see AU86's post about sending Leftists next to Alligator Alcatraz, and that ICE now has 3x the funding that the Marine Corps does) and letting Putin and Xi take over their parts of the world, with the understanding that they all just "stay in their lanes." And that's a foolish position, because China will not stay in its sphere... it wants the entire globe.
That proves a controversial view to have.

Putin sees what everyone else sees:
I've read Annie's Iron Curtain and Red Famine.
She is an excellent historian.
She does suffer now from confirmation bias, everything she sees is confirming her worst fears.
I see a very different set of pieces in motion.
The Pacific campaign overwhelms American foreign Policy.
In the Middle East the US is desperately trying to form a anti-Iranian block.
Saudi, UAE, Jordan, Israel.
Something strong enough to hold Iran down when the Pacific breaks out.
In the far east it's Japan, South Korea, Australia, Taiwan, Singapore, New Zealand, with basing support from the Philippines and potentially Malaysia/Indonesia.
In Europe, NATO knows they need to ramp up to stop a Russian Bear that would break lose the day China attacks Taiwan.
Bringing Finland/Sweden completes the northern flank with Norway.
The Baltics are exposed, Poland the meat grinder, and Romania the southern flank if Ukraine falls.
The US wants the UK in the Pacific, which is seen as the main fight.
So Italy, Germany, and France are going to have to provide the backbone to Europe.
To do that they need to gear up, 5% spending is crazy high, it's a temporary ramp up.
Their forces need to expand, get new weapons, and train with those weapons.
That's what all these actions look like to me.
Oh and Trump hates Zelensky, we all know that.

I think WWIII started the day Putin took power... it kicked into gear the day Xi took power... we didn't start waking up to the fact until Russia invaded Ukraine... some of us still don't see it.
As much as it sucks in some aspects, I think the West needs to shift to a War time economy. Better to be vastly overprepared than caught flat-footed.
I have no faith in Trump. I don't expect him to do anything about China except talk about it. He talks about Xi the same way he talks about Putin. "Very smart man."

Right now we have high tariffs on them, transshipment tariffs, chip embargoes.
We are hurting them.
Until they make a move for Taiwan, there isn't much more we can do.
Remember Wilson won because he kept us out of war.
World events often take control and sweep everyone up in the flood.
I think Trump is being swept up by events, he's the first American president to Bomb Iran.

Once Israel proved they had no air defenses and there was no chance of our bombers being shot down... he's also exaggerated the impact and said "that's enough, back to business as usual," supposedly told them they could attack a US base in Qatar, and took sanctions off of them afterward, which help them, China, and Putin?
I dunno... like I said, I have no faith in him. I'm sure you had no faith in Biden (I didn't have much, honestly)

More information - from last January no less - on why Russia's grain harvest has fallen by 25% compared to 2024. Sanctions have prevented the import of non-Russian grain seed stocks, forcing farmers to increasingly use Russian seed stocks, which have a lower production capacity.
As we know from our history of the Holodomor, in Russia food is a weapon and the seed stock is the trigger to initiate famine. Not predicting famine here, just pointing out a bad and very high profile problem that will only get worse.

quote:
Moscow. January 28. INTERFAX.RU - The collection of grain in Russia in 2025 will be less than in 2024, predicts the President of the Russian grain Union Arkady Zlochevsky.
quote:
The quota of plant imports of seeds is also a concern. “We received the previous harvest in conditions when the quotas for the import of imported seeds were yet introduced. Everyone knew that they would be, so they dragged the seeds to the maximum and formed stocks.
This year, there are no reserves [imported seeds - Interfax], the margin of safety has sharply melted, - said the head of the union. - In the seed fund, the priority for domestic genetics is unequivocally. And it just in terms of yield gives a result 20-30% lower. "
“If last season it was not a very large factor that affected the maximum of 30-40% of the harvest, now it will affect 70% of the harvest, because the volume of quotas will not give more,” he added.

To be sure the defense industry had its nuts cut when Clinton took office and we PAID to have defense plants demolished in the 1990s. Newt went right along for good measure.
It got worse during the Obama years. Trump actually did little to help between 20016 and 2020.
Major expenditures really hurt our balance sheet. First it was the Green New Deal and the last plant built by that money was demolished last year. It turned chicken guts into diesel and pet coke. It didn't work and stunk up and entire town. The reactor it used might be sold to a rocket engine testing company in the near future. Rated for 850 psig. I don't own it. A friend bought it from the demolition company taking down the plant.
Then we had all the covid money doled out which when first announced pissed me off. Then Biden expanded it beyond need.
Then we had the Infrastructure and Inflation Reduction which was another payola scheme. Some of those plants are already being demolished.

I have faith that each American President will rise to the occasion if we are attacked.
I don't think the war happens until Trump is out of office, his job is to get the defense budget up and production moving.
The Trillion$ defense bill is a start.
If the Euros start buying American weapons that's a start.

Yup we balanced the budget based on that move.

Overnight according to Al Jazeera......
Just thought the thread needed some actual news about the conflict.
quote:
Russia overnight launched its largest aerial assault on Ukraine’s capital since the start of the war just hours after President Donald Trump signaled dimming prospects for a ceasefire following a telephone call with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
While the attacks primarily targeted Kyiv, across Ukraine at least 23 people were injured in the strikes, which involved about 540 drones and 11 missiles, according to the country’s military.
“Russia is showing it has no intention of ending the war,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday morning on X.
It was a “brutal, sleepless night” for Kyiv residents, he added.

If you are interested in military aspects of the conflict, Russia has launched a bunch of missile attacks, Putin has admitted his economy is entering a recession and they have attempted to launch another major excursion. They have also launched a massive troll and bot attack in the rant, completely overrun all rationale or reasoning, and completely destroyed MAGA.
Meanwhile, the Ukes have taken out another 12 or so Russian bombers and with the help of US intelligence eliminated or bypassed the Russian aerial defense system that has a serious flaw, destroyed another huge ammo depot has night and killed a bunch of Russian generals. And apparently the actual Russian soldiers, not loving Putin as much as so many MAGA sheeple or their mission in life to suck him off to completion, have been deciding they don't want to be cannon fodder and are are going AWOL in ridiculous numbers apparently over 25,000 this year alone.
And more Russian equipment is just failing all over the place more than is even being destroyed by the Ukes. And they have no answer for the HIMARs or British shadow missile systems. Maybe 25,000 North Korean troops may have joined the fight. Can not wait to see how the MAGA pussy section fawns all his fat arse. (can they suck two dicks at once)
They are going all in to win as much as possible before the bad Fall and winter weather set in.
Or as the MAGA Putin pussy wing thinks “Putin in kicking arse”
