Drone attack halts operations at Gazprom's plant in Astrakhan, says Reuters
Artur Kryzhnyi — Tuesday, 23 September 2025, 19:02
The Astrakhan gas processing plant owned by Russia’s energy giant Gazprom suspended the production of motor fuel on 22 September after a fire caused by a drone attack.
Source: Reuters, citing three industry sources
Details: The fire engulfed a condensate processing unit with an annual capacity of 3 million tonnes, which produces petrol and diesel. The facility is located on the Caspian Sea, 1,675 km (1,040 miles) from the Ukrainian border. Restarting operations could take weeks or even months.
Gazprom has not provided comments. Astrakhan Oblast Governor Igor Babushkin confirmed on Telegram that drones had attacked an industrial facility without naming it. The St Petersburg Commodity Exchange suspended the sale of wholesale fuel from the plant starting Monday.
In February, the plant was also hit by drones and only resumed production at the end of August. In 2024, the plant processed 1.8 million tonnes of stable condensate, producing about 800,000 tonnes of gasoline, 600,000 tonnes of diesel and 300,000 tonnes of fuel oil.
Background: On the night of 19-20 September, Ukrainian forces struck Russian strategic facilities in Saratov and Samara oblasts.

Trump at UN: NATO states "funding war against themselves" by buying Russian energy
Mariya Yemets, OLEKSANDR SHUMILIN — Tuesday, 23 September 2025, 18:11
US President Donald Trump has reiterated his expectation that Europe must abandon Russian energy resources as quickly as possible, stressing that by continuing to buy them European states "are funding the war against themselves".
Source: Trump in his address to the UN General Assembly, as reported by European Pravda
Details: Midway through his speech, Trump referred to the Russo-Ukrainian war and again stated that it "would never have started if I were president". He added that he considers depriving Russia of profits from energy sales an important factor in bringing peace closer – and that he expects full cooperation from Europe in this matter.
Quote: "China and India are the primary funders of the ongoing war by continuing to purchase Russian oil. But inexcusably, even NATO countries have not cut off much Russian energy and Russian energy products… I found out about it two weeks ago, and I wasn’t happy. Think of it. They are funding the war against themselves."
Details: Trump went on to say that if Russia continues to show no willingness to negotiate an end to the war, the US is ready to impose "a very strong round of powerful tariffs which would stop the bloodshed, I believe, very quickly".
"But for those tariffs to be effective, European nations… would have to join us in adopting the exact same measures," the US president stressed.
He underlined that European countries are far closer to the threat, unlike America, which is on another continent.
"They can’t be doing what they’re doing. They’re buying oil and gas from Russia while they’re fighting Russia… They have to immediately cease all energy purchases from Russia. Otherwise, we are all wasting a lot of time," Trump said.
The US president added that he plans to discuss this issue with European leaders on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Trump isn't wrong on this but he's stating it to buy time.
The Europeans have come up with a plan to stop buying all Russian oil but it's going to take time. The plan is to not buy any, at all, by January 1, 2027 but of course we have Hungary and Turkey getting in the way.
But Trump probably knows this but is ignoring it. So while he has a point, I think he's knowingly ignoring other facts.

Incorrect. They applied for Russia Citizenship and are now Russian Citizens.
You still have not addressed your bogus UN numbers showing a "150,000" decrease between 2022-2023 when we know Millions left Ukraine during that time because of the War.

Incorrect. Ukraine would have had a much better chance with Russia signing a peace treaty and Europe/ Ukraine rebuilding the military and starting the War again in 4 years. Now they don't have that option and will continue to lose more men and territory
