Russian offensive yields no gains, 210,000 soldiers lost
August 31, 2025, 03:43 AM
Russia’s latest “seasonal” offensive campaign achieved virtually no results, with the aggressor state failing to gain full control over any major city, Ukraine’s General Staff said on Aug. 31, in response to a report by Russian General Staff Chief Valery Gerasimov on the “outcomes of the spring-summer campaign of 2025.”
“[Gerasimov’s report] is based on attempts to pass off wishful thinking as reality and outright lies,” the General Staff stated.
Since the start of 2025, Russian forces have lost nearly 210,000 soldiers killed or wounded in battles in Kharkiv, Luhansk, and Donetsk oblasts, according to the General Staff. Additionally, 2,174 armored combat vehicles, 1,201 tanks, 7,303 artillery systems, and 157 multiple rocket launch systems were destroyed or damaged.
“Fake enemy reports about ‘security zones’ in Sumy and Kharkiv oblasts are nothing but attempts to conceal the failures of operations that have led to a dead end for the enemy and tens of thousands of losses,” the General Staff added.
In the Kursk operational zone alone, Ukrainian defenders eliminated 19,080 Russian troops, with over 25,000 others wounded.
“Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces are actively operating in Sumy Oblast, having liberated Kindrativka and Andriyivka, and are pushing the enemy out of other border settlements,” the General Staff added.
Russian claims about captured territories and settlements were described as significantly exaggerated.
“The only 100% confirmed result achieved by the Russians since the start of 2025 is their total losses of over 291,000 soldiers killed or wounded,” the Ukrainian Armed Forces said.

Do you get drunk every night?
I ask because that would explain a lot about your posts.

You guys are just disillusioned.
The news is overwhelming reporting Russia has made gains, and they are bombing the snot out of Ukraine on a daily basis. You show these ukranian reports of them shooting down all the artillery.......and then report Russia is killing innocents???????
Its over, its been over, time for zelensky to give up the oblasts and this dream of the world rebuilding his country into disneyland.
If the EU tries to keep those Russian assets they will start an extended war and they should be on their own for such a reckless act.

Not since Stalin's Holodomor. Which Ukrainians have never forgotten.
Holodomor, man-made famine in Soviet Ukraine in 1932–33 that killed as many as seven million Ukrainians.
For older Ukrainians, that took place in their grand parents generation so it is still in living family memory. That won't be forgotten.

I remember when the Putin apologists were saying the Ukraine invasion was necessary to keep NATO off the Russian borders. How is that turning out?

Key Takeaways: The Kremlin appears to have launched a coordinated informational effort posturing military strength on the battlefield in order to shape Western thinking and falsely portray a Russian victory as inevitable. The Kremlin's presentation of territorial gains statistics ignores the significant losses that Russia is incurring and the gradual, creeping nature of Russia's advances — painting an incomplete picture of Russian performance on the battlefield. Russia launched another large-scale combined drone and missile strike against Ukraine on the night of August 29 to 30 — the third combined strike with over 500 drones and missiles since the August 15 US-Russia summit in Alaska. The Kremlin appears to be setting conditions to demote a senior Kremlin official who reportedly advised Russian President Vladimir Putin in recent months to end the war in Ukraine. Ukrainian forces continue to strike Russian military and energy infrastructure in Russia Russian Investigative Committee Chairperson Alexander Bastrykin will stay in his current position for another year following reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin was considering moving Bastrykin to a new position. An unknown assailant shot and killed former Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Chairperson Andriy Parubiy in Lviv City on August 30. A Russian servicemember recently murdered an elderly Ukrainian civilian in the Pokrovsk direction. Ukrainian forces recently advanced near Kupyansk and Novopavlivka, and Russian forces recently advanced near Toretsk, Pokrovsk, and Velykomykhailivka.

Russian Chief of the General Staff Army General Valery Gerasimov claimed on August 30 that Russian forces have seized 3,500 square kilometers of territory and 149 settlements since March 2025

ISW assesses that Gerasimov is inflating most of his claims. ISW has observed evidence to assess that Russian forces have gained only roughly 2,346 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory and seized 130 settlements since March 1.

FSS Facility in Crimea Hit by Flamingo Missiles, Not Neptune — Sources
FSS outpost and patrol boats in Crimea near Armyansk were struck with new Flamingo cruise missiles, not Neptune missiles.
After initial reports indicated that Neptune cruise missiles had struck the site, military sources shared with Militarnyi that the damage was caused by Flamingo cruise missiles, correcting earlier claims made by Astra.
The strike took place on the morning of August 30, 2025. A video of the salvo on targets in Russian-controlled territory was published on the Telegram channel Nikolaevsky Vanyok.
The footage shows a triple launch from the Ukrainian coast at sunrise. The missiles lifted off one after another using solid-fuel boosters and headed toward the target.
New low-resolution satellite images from the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem confirm destruction at the site.
The images show the outpost’s main building destroyed, with surrounding areas also damaged by fire. Due to the low resolution, the full extent of the damage cannot be determined.

I will say without linking it, sober me this morning thinks drunk me was remembering something about freezing to death being something about starving.
This is our exchange of posts which you say I claimed you were being dramatic about Ukrainians starving to death.
You: "Cope is just openly giddy at the prospect of letting the citizens of NATO and EU member countries freeze to death if Ukraine doesn't get what it wants."
Me: "Why would they freeze to death? YOU are being hyperbolic." (The meaning of HYPERBOLIC is of, relating to, or marked by language that exaggerates or overstates the truth.)
You: "What other conclusion are you supposed to take from that?"
Me: "Some Europeans may be inconvenienced but nobody is going to freeze to death, Drama Queen."
You: "What the frick ever dude. Everyone here knows Cope is unhinged." (Irony...)
Me: "I don't know who "Cope" is but I replied to YOU because YOU said it."
And then you started with your usual personal attacks over me correcting you that I never said you were being dramatic over Ukrainians starving to death.
You: "I was told I was being dramatic and that no one thought this way about a week or so ago." (About Ukrainians starving to death.)
Me: "Link?"
You: "You were the one who said it dumbfrick."
Me: "I never said you were being dramatic about people starving dumbfrick."
You: "Except you literally did."
Me: "Then literally link to it."
You: "Literally go frick yourself. I'm not proving that you said something that you know you said. It's enough for me that we both know that you are a cuck. Pretty typical of you to be a dishonest cuck. You're all basically a cult, it wouldn't matter if I did link it to any of you."

So yeah just like I said this morning, freezing to death not starving. And it was never about Ukrainians at all. My bad on that. Still GFY

No one has frozen to death like the Russian Tucker propaganda of 2022/3
Natural gas at the main trading hub in EU is still below pre 2022 pricing when Russian gas flowed freely.

Perun does a deep dive on strikes of Russian refineries, Just as I was saying before, not as impactful as has been otherwise stated in this thread, except for the corrupt fat boy, Orban.
LINK ]LINK[/link
On where to impact a refinery the most
Crude Unit - Crude column (tower) operates at just above atmosphere pressure, easy to patch at least temporarily. Vacuum column easy to patch at least temporarily. There will be two or three feed pumps per unit. Refineries typically have several crude and vacuum towers. Fired heaters on each can also be repaired though might take more than a few weeks. tubes are chrome moly steel. Piping can be replaced. A car tire requires more pressure than these components.
FCC (Cat Cracker - while the reactor and regenerator are both vulnerable, they cannot operate with the large blower (some might call it a compressor). The fractionator column (tower) is vulnerable but can easily be repaired.
Hydrocracker - the reactor is several inch thick steel shell, chrome moly with 347 stainless weld overlay on wetted surfaces. Not that vulnerable. The compressors consist of likely two each makeup hydrogen gas compressors and one recycle compressor, The recycle compressor is the most vulnerable required item. Most of the hydrogen is not consumed in the reaction but recycled over and over. The unit cannot operate without it.
Naphtha Reformer - usually combined with the naphtha hydrotreater. It produces lots of explosive hydrogen gas turning naphtha into high octane gasoline. Hydrogen produced is used to remove sulfur compounds in diesel, kerosene (jet fuel) and gasoline.
Diesel and Kerosene hydrotreaters - you don't need to remove sulfur compounds to use the diesel except to meet emissions standards. You do need to removed sulfur compounds for modern jet fuel though they can be oxidized with caustic treatment "Merox" process. Each unit has two make up hydrogen compressors and a hydrogen recycle compressor. Same goes as for hydrocracker vulnerability with recycle compressor.
Hydrogen Reformer - Typically uses natural gas feedstock to convert it into Hydrogen, Carbon Monoxide and Carbon Dioxide. The Hydrogen is used for the Hydrocracker. Hydrogen leaks are responsible for most hydrogen explosions.
Alkylation Units - two basic types, sulfuric acid and hydrofluoric acid. The acid is the catalyst to convert gases such as butane and pentane into an alkylate used to upgrade gasoline. HF leaks kill people.
Cokers - basically a giant pressure cooker for bottom of the barrel to squeeze out the last drops of oil leaving behind a carbon residue which is a very useful fuel, and also after further processing used in steel (electric arc furnaces) and aluminum production as a sacrificial large anode with lots of electrical current. You cannot make aluminum without carbon anodes.
Typical refineries carry full spare pumps for all processes. They also carry all spare parts required for compressors. the same goes for just about everything except pressure vessels such as reactors. Older refineries used chrome moly steel for temps about 650 degrees F, that changed several decades ago to have stainless steel weld overlay to lessen maintenance costs as well as crude oil with higher sulfur content
Once upon a time, process controls were all manual where a team of operators were in each unit monitoring sight gauges and hand turning valves. In today's world a refinery can all but be operated remotely with smart phone. While processes could still be operated with loss of computerized process controls (presently with computers and operators in an explosion proof building) the large group per unit is likely no longer available.
The refinery strikes are effective temporarily and in the long run add a lot of unplanned wear and tear. This is more about a shitton of added maintenance cost than shutting refineries down permanently. In the short term, effective, longer term not really as much as some posters think.

looks like an Aggie a/I process engineering analysis.
I like the point about being able to operate manually with a gauge and a valve
