It is largely white people's fault that we have all of those terrible things like TV's, cell phones, air planes, cars, trains, computers, internet and modern medicine. She should move to some place that doesn't have these things.

Maybe this KAREN wannabe needs to be reminded of a time in our history where blacks and whites joined together to defeat tyranny.

I've told this story before. One Sunday afternoon I sat, spellbound, in a group of men listening to a WWII Veteran telling a horrific story of survival in battle. I didn't even know this gentleman was a veteran of WWII. Normally he was just this quiet old man I saw at Church every Sunday.

But what he told us was a lesson in what racial harmony can accomplish. He told us he was part of an American unit that was pressing the German's caught in a relentless retreat. He and his unit crossed this bridge in the dead of winter, in pursuit of the retreating German's. They halted their pursuit to regroup on high ground beyond the river. It was then the German's counterattacked. They blew up the bridge and counterattacked.

All of a sudden my WWII hero was forced to jump fully clothed in the freezing waters of that river in order to escape the counterattacking Germans. He was swimming for his life until he got about halfway across the river.......then he simply ran out of strength. He was drowning. Fortunately, a young black GI on the safe shore saw his desperate plight and jumped into the freezing river in an effort to rescue him. Our WWII hero remembers sinking down in the cold dark water then feeling a hand reach out and grabbing him by the collar of his jacket and pulling him to the surface. That young black GI saved my WWII hero.

I remember my WWII hero finishing his story by saying - had that black GI not jumped in that freezing water to save me - I wouldn't be here to tell my story. My WWII hero has since crossed over to the other side.

But he left me with a valuable lesson. Heroism comes in different colors. We're all Americans. We enjoy our freedom because of the sacrifices of those who came before us.

I hope we don't cheapen their sacrifice, by selling out.
