Socialists.

They could never institute most of their ideals without the slippery slope

If not a fallacy, it’s definitely a lazy argument.
There's nothing lazy about pointing out that government tends to use power it has acquired and that such use is wildly unpredictable.

Anyone alive for more than 10 years has actually seen that in action.

What is lazy is pretending this reality does NOT exist and saying, "oh, but let's just talk about this one thing like it has no wider implications"

THAT is fricking lazy.

Alas. It is taught by people who believe in an ideology that absolutely COUNTS ON the reality of the slippery slope. The slippery slope is literally part of their fricking plan.
Exactly. And if you were to point out the nearly innumerable instances of the slippery slope that are more than evident in everyday life they would simply call you and uneducated simpleton and call it “progress” instead of a slippery slope.

Hell man, just look at abortion, or women in the military, the war on terror, literally every government regulatory agency, etc etc etc.

OK, here goes the slippery slope! What else should kids NOT need parental consent for?!?! ?

In Calif. A minor child does not need parental consent for birth control, 'emergency contrceptives' aka morning after pill, pretty much anything reproductive related short of sterilization. Thought that mess started at 'teens' but it doesnt appear to have a minimum age now.

Slippery enough for you?

Hell no. Nothing in our constitution says it’s government’s job to make sure people make good personal decisions about their own lives. Good grief.

We should stop allowing people who have never been vaccinated to flood across our border bringing diseases we eliminated in this country decades ago.

Aggie, I agree with most of your posts (because you consistently take the counterpoint to the conspiracy theories rattling around in this vacuum chamber), but as a parent I can’t agree here.

I’m all for vaccines; I vaccinated my daughter on schedule and I believe in the necessity of herd immunity. That said, how would the schools know whether each kid is allergic? Even if it’s a long shot, it’s a concern. I don’t want schools functioning as clinics (beyond bandaids) any more than I want them functioning as churches.

If insane parents want to not vaccinate their kids then we haven’t done a good enough job educating the public. Perhaps there should be stiffer penalties if a kid that should have been vaccinated is injured by a preventable disease due to parental neglect. That said, it’s not the role of the school.

ETA: I’m completely fine with schools requiring kids to have either proof of vaccinations or a doctor’s note that they were allergic. Since some kids can’t get immunized, this is a way of ensuring a safe environment.

When I was in elementary school back in then 70’s there sure as hell wasn't any parental consent. They just lined our little asses up and hit us with those damn air guns. Every kid got it and still carries a scar on their arm decades later.

This is one issue I’ll admit I’m pretty torn on. Obviously kids not being vaccinated is dangerous but I really don’t like the idea of govt mandatory vaccinations...

If your kid gets the vaccination and it actually works then you have nothing to worry about .

Every vaccine has side effects from mild to severe, I would want to know if my kid had recently had a vaccination just to monitor for adverse reactions.

Possible side effects of MMR vaccine from CDC.

After MMR vaccination, a person might experience:

Minor events:
Sore arm from the injection
Fever
Redness or rash at the injection site
Swelling of glands in the cheeks or neck
If these events happen, they usually begin within 2 weeks after the shot. They occur less often after the second dose.

Moderate events:
Seizure (jerking or staring) often associated with fever
Temporary pain and stiffness in the joints, mostly in teenage or adult women
Temporary low platelet count, which can cause unusual bleeding or bruising
Rash all over body

Severe events occur very rarely:

Deafness
Long-term seizures, coma, or lowered consciousness
Brain damage

The parents of the children harmed probably disagree with you.

quote:

Serious complications reported by Merck in the ProQuad(MMR-V) product insert during vaccine post-marketing surveillance include6:

measles;
atypical measles;
vaccine strain varicella;
varicella-like rash;
herpes zoster;
herpes simplex;
pneumonia and respiratory infection;
pneumonitis;
bronchitis;
epididymitis;
cellulitis;
skin infection;
subacute sclerosing panencephalitis;
aseptic meningitis;
thrombocytopenia;
aplastic anemia (anemia due to the bone marrow’s inability to produce platelets, red and white blood cells);
lymphadenitis (inflammation of the lymph nodes);
anaphylaxis including related symptoms of peripheral, angioneurotic and facial emema;
agitation;
ocular palsies;
necrotizing retinitis (inflammation of the eye);
nerve deafness;
optic and retrobulbar neuritis (inflammation of the optic nerve);
Bell’s palsy (sudden but temporary weakness of one half of the face);
cerebrovascular accident (stroke);
acute disseminated encephalomyelitis;
measles inclusion body encephalitis;
transverse myelitis;
encephalopathy;
Guillain-Barré syndrome;
syncope (fainting);
tremor;
dizziness;
paraesthesia;
febrile seizure;
afebrile seizures or convulsions;
polyneuropathy (dysfunction of numerous peripheral nerves of the body);
Stevens-Johnson syndrome;
Henoch-Schönlein purpura;
acute hemorrhagic edema of infancy;
erythema multiforme;
panniculitis;
arthritis;
death

But vaccines should be forced on everyone.

quote:

A 2014 published study on the MMR-V vaccine in Canada determined that the risk of febrile seizures to be double in children receiving the MMR-V vaccine when compared to those receiving the MMR and varicella vaccines separately.7 A 2015 meta-analysis found a two-fold increase in febrile seizures between 5 and 12 days or 7 and 10 days following MMR-V vaccination in children between the ages of 10 and 24 months.

quote:

The IOM committee, however, concluded that the scientific evidence “convincingly supports” a causal relationship between febrile seizures, anaphylaxis, and measles inclusion body encephalitis in immunocompromised individuals and the MMR vaccine and favored acceptance of a causal relationship between transient arthralgia in both children and women and the MMR vaccine.

quote:

the U.S. Court of Claims administering the VICP has compensated 483 children and adults, who have filed claims for measles vaccine injury.

quote:

There is evidence that only between one and 10 percent of serious health problems that occur after use of prescription drugs or vaccines in the U.S. are ever reported to federal health officials

So, it is highly probable that the number of cases is significantly higher than what is reported.

Adverse vaccine induced reactions including allergic reactions are rare, but they occur. When they do, they can be serious and even fatal. In instances of allergy, repeat exposure most often results in far more severe complication.
