One thing I don't understand is this...when you are surrounded by people smarter than you the normal reaction is a feeling of intimidation. IE, if I were appointed to a committee of scientists to design a space ship to Mars I would feel very worried during the discussions that I didn't understand their analysis. Honestly, about the same major qualifications as Clarence Thomas, with the difference being Thomas' 8yrs as the EEOC head vice District Court Judge. You may not agree with her decisions or advocacy, but she received her position based on merit, not the things you mentioned.
