There was a time in the not so distant past when the talk of nuclear war was almost unthinkable if not taboo….now we have an illegitimate regime and the Groomers who support the regime talking about thermonuclear war almost nonchalantly.

There is absolutely no question that the world is now closer to the use of nuclear weapons than at any time since the Cuban Missile Crisis, and yet the lack of concern over this fact in the West -- indeed, a virtual excitement over it -- is very striking, and alarming:

Any attempt to suggest that perhaps a diplomatic solution should be pursued in order to avert the horrific damage from further war, to say nothing of the very real risks of nuclear exchange, is immediately castigated as proof that one is a Kremlin asset or apologist.

Interesting, just scanned a lot of Russian media (pro and anti Putin) and European media and there is nothing on this development.

Because they know what it means. Again, go look at the war thread right now. They’re finally being sane and it’s finally crossed their minds what might be the end here. Those of us who have considered this aren’t panicking, but they are. They’re simply six months behind us.

That will get you by a couple of weeks.

You are a buffoon. You’re claiming to be a sage for pointing out that Putin could use nukes. Everyone has been talking about that since Putin was forced on the defensive. And it’s perfectly obvious that a country, losing a war, would use its most powerful weapon.

Putin’s invasion has failed. If he wants to remain in control of Russia he will have to accept very ugly peace terms. You can bet that his Generals and other subordinate leaders are being approached by Western Intelligence and are being compromised so that, if Putin orders the use of WMD, the order will be disobeyed and Putin removed.

Maybe it won’t go that way, but it is being setup.

I’ve got three months worth of emergency food supply, a location to shelter if it should come to the worst, and 700 rounds of ammo for self defense.

That’s exactly what I have, because if it comes to that, I’m taking yours, just like I used to take your lunch money in high school.

Everyone knows the war must end with a deal. The six month delay isn’t due to your superior wisdom; it’s due to you being a pussy. If you were in charge we would have cut a deal with Russia early on, when they were strong, and they would have half of Ukraine. Instead, we supported Ukraine, armed them with superior weapons, and forced Russia into defeat. Now we will make a deal on favorable terms. Thankfully we didn’t listen to wimps.

I suppose we should be impressed that some people have stubbornly refused to see what is actually happening and instead chosen to personally attack anyone who states the obvious.

It’s almost like instead of admitting they were wrong they are doubling down. The embarrassment at being wrong , that they are feeling internally is being channeled into anger and we see them lashing out.

Quite literally these adults are having temper tantrums on the message board

The Ukrainians or us did this. It’s an escalation and the war thread is finally starting to realize what they’ve been advocating for for 7 months
It is also a move which may be perceived by Russians as an attack inside their country, status of Crimea notwithstanding. It's going to piss Russians off, either against Putin, or against Ukraine.

For all the pro-Ukrainian types, Ukraine surely has treated their previous citizens in Crimea like dirt. Haven't they though?

Cut off their water. Blew up their bridge. It's almost like they were and are willing to differentially abuse those folks.
