I'm open to debate on this subject because the bright lines are hard to determine. But if art is speech, what does this painting say? Is there any nuance to the message, is it a threat, a wish, a dream, an instruction manual? How do we tell? Speech can be violent; can art be violent speech?
Like I said earlier, the best way to test is to apply it to different subjects and different places. See if Kent State and other institutions are equally sanguine about speech that they might find offensive or violent. I'm not opposed, in theory, to some limitation on speech but the difficulty is always who gets to decide where and when the lines are crossed.

I think Saban was on campus when it happened. Seems like yesterday when such a thing was huge news. Now we are numb to shootings in school. Another thread had the austin sniper and it was so weird to see how comfortably numb we have become to violence
