I just find those posts cringe. Even not when coming from a F tier board poster.

I don't know anything about these tanker jets. Is there really no means to eject or jump?

They are modified Boeing 707s. Basically an airliner modified for military use to some degree. They also have other crew members. I’m not sure how many but at least 5 I assume. I don’t know if they have chutes or not. But the chances of them needing a chute and not being able to crash land are probably slim to none. It’s not the movies.

They used to have parachutes and a bailout door, but no longer have either. It was decided that since they fly in friendly territory, they don't need them.

I could make so many jokes about this but you are a big ole boy from what I remember and would probably rip my good arm off and beat me to death with it.

A Google search suggests that the standard crew is three, a pilot, co-pilot and boom operator. Hope they made it down ok.

I’ve flown in them. No.

They’re worse than accusing someone of wanting US military members to die? They’re more “cringe” than that?

Not Good! Big old jet over Iraq and probably had loads of fuel unless they had refueled before they "collided" as TBoy prefers. Even a controlled crash landing on sand does not go well.

the original text on the CBS news article said

quote:

An aerial refueling tanker was believed to have been one of two planes hit by shoulder-launched missiles, U.S. officials said.

but has since been removed.

There’s three crew members, no ejection seats, no chutes carried.

Not enough in the press release to confirm a collision. Two aircraft involved, the second could’ve been smaller, the same size, or larger than the tanker.

Iraqis on telegram are saying it was shot out the air by a SAM. Though I imagine theyd say that no matter what.

So maybe a midair collision while refueling?

Boom structural failure or basket failure causing depature from flight damage. Hose and probe, or basket, flailing around is a nasty proposition. KC-135R's are old, very old, no matter how many times they are literally rebuilt in Depot, shite happens to old aircraft in dynamic situations. That would be a helluva trick with shoulder launched missiles at an aircraft orbiting at 22-25000 feet

I’m seeing it may have been another 135 that hit it
