So, she learned the hard way you should always take a 50% down payment for custom orders? Never sink money into custom products without a down payment and a signed contract. If a customer isn’t willing to do that, they have bad intentions anyway.

Why would he walk in and pay 50% down for something, with no intention on ever picking up the product?
I'd believe you if you said he ordered it and didn't pick it up, maybe he changed his mind or whatever and fricked your mom over, but why would he do that intentionally, how would that "scam" benefit him?
