I’ll say it… she’s throwing red meat to the stupid and uninformed faction of her party.
100%
I guarantee you a vast majority of her supporters couldn't tell you what taxing unrealized gains means, outside of "taxing the rich more" and "making them pay their fair share" and something about equity.
This is not a serious proposal, they know it'll get shot down with the quickness and they can blame Republicans (even though none of her base actually knows WHAT they truly shot down). They can then say "look, the Republicans are clearly the party of the rich white men, corporations, and billionaires!" and their base will eat it up.

Taxing unrealized gains is madness. How can anyone support such a stupid idea?
I know a few financial advisors who are voting for Kamala, talking about a death wish to their business…. I just can’t get my head wrapped around it

Wants to tax unrealized gains
How would they do that? Would you have to report basis on 1/1 then 12/31 and the tax is based on that? Does your basis in the stock increase by the amount taxed as unrealized? If you have an unrealized loss, doyouget to claim that? Sounds like a real boon for accountants everywhere

Financial advisors are only one step above ambulance chasers and realtors.

She wants highest cap gains tax in American history
Most tax is theft, but capital gains taxes are really theft.
Taxing an investor who already takes their taxed income to invest to make more money should be illegal.

Taxes on unrealized gains has to be one of the most pants-on-head retarded tax proposals

They’ll rationalize it as feeding school kids and building infrastructure
