So what have you "gathered" from this thread?

From what I've gathered from this thread, it wouldn't have been a great loss to keep your arse in jail.
This guy was all action and no talk. It’s what’s needed more in this world.
Did he make mistakes… maybe but none of us was there to know the circumstances in all of what has been talked about. The real circumstances and not some lefty fig media shite talking points.
Big Ed I commend you for actions and would buy you a beer if I ever met you.

If nothing else, Ed should be commended for willing to discuss this most relevant and timely story with us in real time. This not only is a breaking news story, it will remain one of the most controversial aspects of Trump’s entire political career and indeed American history.
I often depend upon the PB to follow breaking news but this takes the topicality of a breaking news story to a entirely different level. We now have one of our own offering to discuss his personal involvement in this story with us.
As indicated above, this discussion is directly from the source and unfiltered by a 3rd party. It further means that Ed will be pressed on some very troubling things that have occurred in his past.
Yet from what I have read so far, Ed has appeared perfectly willing to candidly address those matters head on, warts and all. Think about that for moment.
Whatever your opinion of Ed’s actions on January 6th, the man has stone cold gonads. It is far too common for posters here to go apoplectic for something so insignificant as receiving a downvote or two.
Yet Ed has been willing to open himself up to brutal and scathing criticism for two of the most momentous and consequential events of his life. I have nothing but respect for the way he has handled himself in this thread.

I have a constitutional problem with that statement. It allows for people at the time to make very bad unconstitutional decisions that affect peoples lives with no recourse.
To use that logic as a current example, we most certainly had people break that law in Jan 6 but someone said it was an insurrection and detained people 4 fricking years.
That is unconscionable in a civilized society. Not even a trial for a lot of them. "Insurrection"/"enemy combatant"/ "spy"
if they are United States citizens they are entitled to due process. Our Supreme Court established that in 2018 when Roberts strongly repudiated the court in Korematsu.
Our courts have upheld an embarrassingly large amoujnt of bad laws from Dred Scott to Korematsu to Roe....

In hindsight, it was obviously a setup by our own government to agitate and rule up our own citizens. In the moment you just get caught up in it. Afterwards you feel manipulated and used.
What actions do you now see in hindsight that indicates you and others were manipulated and used that you did not recognize on January 6th?

As to supporting his release, he was entrapped by the US government, imprisoned and had his constitutional rights stripped from him illegally. All for protesting a stolen 2020 election which had just been illegally certified. He'll always have my support for that regardless of his past. He showed up for America.
I’m with you. You see, sometimes a person who is clearly guilty walks free because the govt fricked up in collecting evidence or some other procedural error. And that’s as it should be.

A guy marching and yelling chants or carrying a sign is just a protester.
But a guy dressed as a power ranger or a chicken, while doing the above gets attention.
That’s why you wear the outfit!

War is different than peacetime. During war, illiberal methods are sometimes required to overcome the inherent weaknesses of a democracy. Rome, an early democracy, recognized that, and included in their laws the appointment of a temporary dictator. The dictator would assume those powers, at a vote of the Senate, during times of crises, and relinquish them after a given period of time.
We were not at war in 2021, and there was no reason to employ anti-democratic methods.
