wouldn't you think that the government would have charged him with battery had it really happened?
"Edward Richmond Jr, 40, has been charged with felony civil disorder, entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon, and assaulting
what's the legal difference here?

I would assume banging on a shield would be considered assault. However, that is completely different from beating the shot out of a police officer.

I don’t care about the war stuff. He’s 20 in Iraq. And our government put him there.
But…

Richmond carried a police shield into the crowd and then returned to the mouth of the tunnel, where he attacked officers with a retractable metal baton, hitting their shields.
Before leaving, Richmond passed along a wooden board for rioters to use against police as a makeshift weapon. He also carried out office furniture from a broken window.
“He pumped it up in the air several times over his head and shouted, drawing huge cheers from the crowd and spurring the rioters on in their violent attack against police,” a prosecutor wrote.
Richmond was arrested in January and pleaded guilty to assault.

I hope you have reflected on the fact that you are both impulsive and easily influenced- leading to questionable decision making. Not saying this as an attack on you but just genuine advice.
In the future, when you feel yourself getting "spun up" you need to have the awareness to take a step back and reconsider your plans. You are almost certainly not thinking rationally.
I am passing no judgment on the Iraqi case or the J6 case. You paid your debts as far as Im concerned.

He was at war.
And that cop has a bad record.
Ed was discharged and did 3 years.
The cop was pardoned.
You are a fricking idiot if you can’t see the difference.

Glad you are home and safe. I’m not sure what happened, but I am very disturbed by how people were treated.

I’m just saying he took an assault charge for assaulting officers.
I don’t know what he would expect to happen.
It is also true people got screwed in this whole ordeal.
And he made himself easily identifiable wearing that outfit. Another poor choice.
