I thought about that for a second too, but BoarEd was an actual Arkansas fan and it doesn't seem like there's anything in OP's history to say he had any ties to Arkansas.
Also, the two posted on this board at the same time and have sign up dates that go pretty far back.

Everything linked so far shows him striking a police shield with a baton. No mention of "beating the shite out of cops" or even mention of any injuries to a cop.

Couple of takeaways from me:
1) I know it is fashionable to rip on media and the Washington Times but that was one hell of a read. I hope Edward and his father were happy with how Anne Hull wrote it up. It gives a different perspective than the other articles and seemed like a nice job of journalism (giving a different perspective).
2) I am a simple civilian. I am in no way qualified to know protocols, etc. I now feel a similar emotion on his earlier situation as the film “A Few Good Men” evoked upon first watch on how I should feel about Dawson and Downey.
3) It seems to be batons plural. It looks like he has a Police baton in his hand in some photos + the metal baton.
4) After putting your father (and other family members) through everything with the Manslaughter trial, I think your peers and most everyone here would have been OK with you making the decision to hang back a bit at the Capitol when the chaos started to just not accidentally get put in a “wrong place, wrong time” situation.
5) With regards to your past experiences and looking forward, I can’t help but think of a quote from Major Winters: “That night, I thanked God for seeing me through that day of days. I also promised that if some way I could get home again, I would find a nice peaceful town and spend the rest of my life in peace.”
I hope you can have that moment where you find some internal and external peace in your life going forward.
