I hope any ANTIFA member/supporter who considers themselves in 2020 to be like any of of those amazing men gets dick/cooch cancer.

Somewhere in all of that was my dad. He later served as an MP during the Nuremberg Trials (that's where he met my mom -- a German national -- and brought her back to Texas).

I’d bet bucks that after the fact, he quietly kept his stories of that day to himself.

Great pics, thanks.
Does anyone know what the blimps were used for?

The blimps you are referring to are barrage balloons, they were a very common form of anti aircraft defence as they deterred low flying and dive bombing aircraft.

You would be correct. In fact I didn't know he was in D-Day until he was terminally ill. When he was in the hospital on June 6 some of the nursing staff celebrated the veterans in the hospital, only then did he tell me he was part of it.

These are real, brave, American men. Our generation makes me cringe for calls to close our beaches over a cold virus.

My favorite line from a D-Day vet from Ruston, La. about 10 years ago...
Him: 'I was in the back of the landing craft and saw our guys in front getting mowed down. I dropped my rifle and jumped over the side and swam under water to the beach.'
Q: 'What did you do without a rifle?'
Him: 'Oh, there were plenty of rifles on the beach.'

Wow. What can you even say?
They’re all so young.
That’s what gets me every time I look at these.

Ralph (Shug) Jordan (Auburn Coach) was on Omaha Beach in the second wave. He was wounded on the beach, but continued fighting.
My Grandfather was a scholarship player on Shug's first Freshman Team. Blew out his knee on a punt return against Georgia. Shug kept him in school where he earned his degree in Civil Engineering. Shug also trained him to be a Coach. When the war broke out, Auburn shut down, every able bodied man joined the cause. Granddad was rejected by the Army and Navy because of his knee. A Marine Officer saw the dejected young man and asked why he was depressed. "Your degree is in what? I believe the Marine Corps has a place for you, follow me."
Granddad kept the airfields open on Guadal Canal and Iwo Jima.
This is a day to remember for sure. A generation that cannot be replaced.
