He is maybe the most effective president outside RR back to and including Lincoln. Lincoln had a hand in killing millions of Americans at the hands of other Americans. Including the ones who have perished in the past 150 years after he almost permanently stunted one whole section of the nation with his war. After he called for 75K volunteers to PUT DOWN the rebellion. Some putting down.
He was put in a bad situation and was not up to it. His ego would not allow him to negotiate then gently squeeze the some 1400 elite families (many heirs of rich European elites who were awarded grants to plant in the new world) who took the south out of the union then manipulated the poor to go fight for them. Against their own best interests. These poor whites were up against it, they only knew farming but couldn't afford land nor could they share crop as the big planters owned slaves. So they were open to being bought off with free land and subsidies. Cheaper than what prosecuting the war cost. Then he could have bought the slaves and property in the south back at big prices to those who wanted to sell. Then backed owners by subsidizing share cropping or owners who paid help. And let the slave mentality die it's natural death. Patience was not one of old Abe's virtues. His my way or the highway was a disaster.

His interview on fox with mark levine is awesome if no one has seen it. And i'm not a levine fan. But he does well on interviews.
