His ability to seamlessly switch voices and personalities is amazing.

When he corrects himself or gets into a disagreement among the characters, I usually laugh if I forgot they were the same person.

Really gifted, essentially the same skill as ventriloquism, without having to disguise the fact that you're talking, but his repertoire is really solid of those voices he's mastered.

John has done some voices, like Clinton (which was pretty good, back in the day) and Obama (which was decent at times), but has been mostly the Ringmaster at the center of Johnson's voice work for the large bulk of the show's history.

Bigger problem is that clearly that is the toughest, physically, of the three main voices Steve does.

I listen just about every day. A few months ago Johnson must have had a terrible cold. He did the whole show in only his and Billy Ed’s voice. He tried to do Kenneth but sounded like shite and didn’t even bother to do Eaux.

Sucks to hear about Walton. Hope he gets better. Been listening since I was a wee lad.

Anyone know what happened to "the dark one," Jay Hooks I think was his name? That dude was nuts.

The "Friday Morning Prayer" he would lead each week was pull the car over and listen radio. Like, I could not focus on driving and listening to the prayer at the same time, it might have been the funniest thing ever on radio.

They are past their prime. And not interesting anymore. Should have retired after Trump got elected.

I really wish you guys would designate local themed threads in the title. It would make it a lot easier for the rest of us

Sorry to hear if John Walton is sick, hopefully he can pull past it.

Before Obama, I listed pretty much every morning. They just got so angry, political, and unfunny after that. I still listen every once in a while. It does seem like they have turned down the anger some, but I'm not sure the funny is back where it used to be.

Of course, I think they were their best on B-97 in the late 80s, where 85% of their show was making fun of Waggaman Women and other local jokes. I remember the first time they "went regional" in the early 90s and it just seemed like they had nothing to talk about. I remember "the breakup" and then reuniting on WCKW.

The two of them are better together than apart. They just play off of each other very well.

I remember Story Time, Bible Time, Taser Report

Well, you have to understand that an Obama-supporting media mogul went after them and tried to get them forced off the air, after the election and at the behest of the Obama-sphere. It was a pretty bitter fight, and I'm not surprised that they went out of their way to shite on him. He deserves it anyway.

As an aside, I was thinking about all of the great radio men I've had the chance to listen to. I lived in the DC area for two extended periods, listened to the last years of Stern, and sat through several years of Elloitt the Annoying.

But one of the best radio men I ever heard was Doug Tracht, a.k.a. The Greaseman. He was fired in the 90's for some non-PC comments on the air regarding Lauren Hill and the black guy who was dragged to death in Texas. He probably deserved to be disciplined, but it pretty much ruined him forever.

I heard W&J talking about him the other day, and looked on YT for some good samples.

I'm shocked to hear they were still on the air anywhere...they have to be in their 70s (at least Walton).

I don't like their humor most of the time, but I've listened to the show over the years and the guy has great vocal talent. He could have made a lot of money voicing animation. Hope he recovers from whatever it is.

He has upper GI issues, that he ignored for a little while and finally went to get it taken care of. Should be treatable they said. I was shocked to see the thread title and all the reaction, but I know message boards very well...

fortunately, W & J has a wide berth. I've got no idea where their show originates from, I just always got to hear it after Stevens and Pruett went off the air in Houston (know they weren't in H-town). so "local" for this thread is pretty damn well gulf coast by the looks of the responses.

when you didn't know wtf was being discussed, it would have been easy enough to move along.
