Who was correct about the way the world works?

Missionary: Can you take us up the river

Rambo: Are you taking any weapons?

Missionary: Of course not

Rambo: You aren't changing anything

Missionary: Well thats the problem with the world

Rambo: F*ck the world
......................

Lennon: "Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too

Imagine all the people
Livin' life in peace"

Lennon didn't really believe all that shite he wrote. Obviously he didn't believe in "No possessions". As for "no religion", he is known to have communicated w/both Billy Graham and Oral Roberts (!), looking to discuss the unsatisfactory nature of his anti-religious worldview.

The world has worked the same way pretty much since the beginning.

Idealism is, well, idealistic. It makes for song lyrics, not governance.

On the evening he was assassinated as it was happening in New York, and before I knew of it, I was reading the Playboy interview with Lennon. I graduated from AU a day or two later.

He expressed that his views were becoming more conservative.

As popular as Lennon was he'd be even more popular today now that being a self righteous pussy is the preferred mindset

Actually Lennon supported Reagan at the time if his death. He had grown up.

I found an internet copy of the whole playboy interview, a really great interview. I was reading this while preparing to graduate within a day or two from AU. He was assassinated while I was reading it. I found out about the death when I finished the read. Odd.

It is long but exceptionally well done and quite interesting.

So, again:

Lennon was ignorant. There will always be power hungry tyrants looking to gain control or wealth at the expense of others. Human nature.

He chose Yoko Ono as his mate; ignorance only scratches the surface of his disorders.

But collaborated on some great music!

"LENNON: But nobody’s perfect, etc., etc. Whether it’s Janov or Erhardt or Maharishi or a Beatle. That doesn’t take away from their message. It’s like learning how to swim. The swimming is fine. But forget about the teacher. If the Beatles had a message, it was that. With the Beatles, the records are the point, not the Beatles as individuals. You don’t need the package, just as you don’t need the Christian package or the Marxist package to get the message. People always got the image I was an anti-Christ or antireligion. I’m not. I’m a most religious fellow. I was brought up a Christian and I only now understand some of the things that Christ was saying in those parables. Because people got hooked on the teacher and missed the message."

Rambo is right. The world is not good. There will always be people that take advantage of kindness. There will always be profit in discourse.
