Medicare For All is -not- Medicare. Medicare has premiums, deductibles, and many dozens of privatized Advantage and Medigap supplemental plans. It also doesnt cover abortions and transgender operations.

True Medicare is a good system, but was created for a specific purpose. Not to be the end all for healthcare.

so he concedes we don't know exactly what it would cost, and we can't currently pay for it?

That's half the argument against it.

That's like saying Trindon Holliday should play DE. Granted he is tiny, and OL would abuse him. . .but he is fast and and it worked in the Video Game.

Since I grant half the argument, we should ignore that, and only focus on the half of the evidence that says it could work, and therefore Trindon should be a defensive end.

America has had open borders for generations and seems destined to have open borders for the foreseeable future.

Therefore, Medicare for All The Western Hemisphere.

Spouse and I have been on Medicare for about a year, we pay about $800 per month in premiums for the supplemental polices needed to have what we consider the absolute minimum acceptable coverage, and this still leaves us with a plan that is inferior to the private insurance we previously had.

I learned that Medicare for all is much more like Medicaid for all. No copays, deductibles, or any additional cost beyond the taxes that are passed to pay for it.

What none of these rich people who live in a bubble realize is, if there is no additional cost for medical visits or procedures the system will get clogged with runny nose kids, drug addicts looking to score, and a bunch of hypochondriacs. So, when you actually need to go to the doctor, there will be a waiting list instead of a same day visit.

I have never witnessed free services for the public work efficiently and without massive abuse. And I have seen a lot of free service interactions as a resident of Louisiana.

Oh, no need to guess.

Last month one of your math adverse brethren surmised in a Business article that since Canada spends just $217 billion/yr on healthcare administrative costs while the US spends $817 billion, that if we switched to the Canadian system, we'd save a bunch of money. Here's how that went . . .
quote:

quote:

The US spent $817 billion on healthcare administrative costs in 2017, $600 billion more than Canada
The US population is nearly 9X the size of Canada's.

In other words, CANADA SPENDS 2.3 TIMES what the US spends per capita on Administrative Costs. Put differently for the math challenged, their system in our country would run $1.9 TRILLION.

That is over $1 TRILLION more than we currently spend, and it's money which would not go to care at all, but rather to administrators.

GREAT IDEA THERE

I agree. The issue is that you pay for other peoples healthcare and kids RIGHT NOW, the government just doesn't tell you.

The issue is you'd pay for Medicare for All.
It just wouldn't pay the people and facilities that you count on to provide your care.

Other than that small detail, M4A is a lovely idea.

Socialized medicine is great in ethnically homogeneous, high-IQ European societies. Unfortunately, we live in clown world.

Conservatives think they hate "socialism," but what they really hate is multiculturalism.

The only way forward is the third position - illiberal cultural conservatism combined socialized medicine, high quality education and infrastructure spending. This would require whites to actually get on the same page politically, though.

I think what I hate is the idea of a national healthcare system, devoid of choice, with 330 million Americans on its rolls. There isn't enough money in the United States to pay for that and do it adequately.

Tried watching. Couldn’t make it all the way through.

His premise is the same as every socialistic idea: drag the rest back to the mean. “Sure, healthcare is great if you’re Beyonce.” So, we need to have free healthcare and make Beyoncé’s care as bad as ours. Carl Lewis can run fast so let’s cut his hamstring. Christy Brinkley is pretty so let’s scar her face.

I wonder if the little girl in that piece would even have the eye surgery as an option in a Medicare for all system? $5 says the surgery was developed here and not somewhere else.

If you’re a fan of that kind of healthcare, there are places you can get it other than Venezuela and China. But you’ll be back here when you want top quality care, or don’t want to wait in line, or both. Socialized medicine sucks for the individual.

My understanding of Bernie's plan is that it will outlaw the private system and mandate that doctors cannot refuse m4a patients.

That is a serious freedom killer that I can't abide by.

This.

I can’t imagine having to explain to the entire population that they’ve reached the medicare coverage gap and they’ll have to pay $600 a month for insulin for a month or two until they get out. Medicare is inferior to most private plans
