So the OP's article and your quoted article are both actually true at the same time. The information in your quoted article actually supports the OP - that Texas had to look elsewhere for energy to "minimize an increase in emissions."

The problem is that no one should be giving a frick about emissions during a natural disaster.

Finally - Politifact is not an unbiased fact checker by any stretch of the imagination.

Ok, here's another fact checker for you.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2021/02/23/fact-check-doe-order-let-texas-power-agencies-exceed-emissions-limits/4546085001/

And here is the Public Market Notice from Ercot acknowledging that their request had been granted:
https://www.ercot.com/services/comm/mkt_notices/archives/5187

quote:

Today, ERCOT requested an emergency order from the U.S. Secretary of Energy (“Secretary”) pursuant to Section 202(c) of the Federal Power Act (“FPA”) due to the expected impact of the extreme cold weather event on electric demand and generator availability and the likelihood that ERCOT will need to resort to rotating outages on one or more days in the next week. The Secretary granted ERCOT’s request and issued an order finding that an electric reliability emergency exists within the State of Texas that requires intervention in order to preserve the reliability of the bulk electric power system. The order authorizes certain electric generating units located within the ERCOT interconnection to operate up to their maximum generation output in certain limited circumstances, notwithstanding federal air quality or other permit limitations. The order is effective immediately and will remain effective through Friday, February 19, 2021. A copy of the order is attached to this Market Notice.

Mickey, he's basically criticizing:

a) the very premise that a State has to get permissions from the Feds during an emergency when lives are in jeopardy and

b) why does Huizenga even bring emissions stuff into the response during an emergency?

Why is the emboldened part even necessary?

Glad the USA Today "debunked" the official order I posted a link to. The USA Today is surely not biased.

ERCOT brought it up in the first place. That was the whole point of the request. They knew if they maximized their capacity, they would go over their emissions standards. They requested they be permitted to do so during this short timeframe. That permission was granted.

This whole story is classic Alex Jones/Info Wars/ stuff that gets spread on Facebook and that people will be talking about at family gatherings for years as if it were true.

The official order grants the request made by ERCOT....USA Today debunked the Info Wars headline.

The DOE "approved" the request, but with all kinds of insane strings, like forcing them to buy more renewables from outside the state at outrageous prices, paperwork, reporting, environmental standards, etc... before they could even think about ramping up fossil fuel generated electricity.

If you read the full order from the DOE, you can clearly see the issues with this "approval".

Do you ever have anything negative to say about the political left of this country? Is everything they do absolutely perfect? Do you feel the need to put your bullshite spin on every anti-socialist/democratic article that comes out? Are you an actual supporter of biden and his policies or do you just hate Trump?

I have so many questions for people who think like you do

Fake title. Fake news. Joe Biden's Dept. of Energy granted every request made by ERCOT. The DOE basically copy/pasted the request by ERCOT.

LINK to ERCOT request.

ERCOT said themselves that the permission was granted.
